  • How can we possibly keep gay marriage illegal?

I am a Christian and many of my fellow Christians oppose gay marriage, but I must ask:

How can we keep gay marriage illegal? How can we claim to hold the key to other men's morality? We do not and cannot. The only thing that has kept gay marriage illegal is tradition. Just like slavery was legal for so long..the only reason we got away with that was because of people's attitudes. Logically and legally, it makes absolutely no sense to deny another man his rights. On what basis? You don't like it? Absurd!

It is nothing short of arrogant to think that we hold in our hands the power to deny someone their right, as if WE have the power to just hand gay people the right to marry (or to deny it). Absolutely absurd, but it continues today. I guess we will, technically, have to "hand them" their rights, but the right was set in stone in our constitution a long time ago.

  • What are your thoughts on the Fair Tax?

Gary Johnson, if elected president, wants to implement the Fair Tax.

    Features of the Fair Tax:

First off, the Fair Tax is a tax on consumption. Stuff you buy. That's all that is taxed. And not even all of that is taxed.

You keep your entire paycheck. $7.50 an hour means $7.50 an hour. You work 40 hours you get $350, not $294. Of course that's going off the minimum wage, Imagine keeping $15X40!

Allows retirees to keep entire pensions - again, pretty sweet, right?

Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities

Allows American products to compete fairly

Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy (no sneaky stuff from the govt)

Ensures Social Security and Medicare Funding (two programs that are going bankrupt by the way!)

Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation (again, no sneaky govt stuff)

    Eliminates Corporate welfare

Reduces lobbying efforts in D.C. (no more buying votes and points of view)

Promotes a smaller, more efficient, more effective govt.

Collects taxes from illegals and the underground economy (every one consumes, so every one pays this tax)

Abolishes the IRS (who likes dealing with those guys!? I don't!)

So, what do YOU think, reader?

  • Why do Democrats support war?

During the Bush (Jr.) years they hated it! The airwaves were filled with antiwar songs. What happened? The democrats cheer the demise of Osama Bin Laden..why? Is it because it happened under Obama's administration? If they were truly against war it sure wasn't for the same reasons I was. I find it hard to believe now that they weren't so much antiwar but anti-Bush. Or do they not realize that Obama is continuing the war machine? Where are all the protest songs? Are people so far into their party lines that they'll support war as long as it's a democrat and not a republican running the show? The Military Industrial Complex is stronger than ever! Where are all the pacifists?

  • Won't it be great when voting Republican or Democrat takes away votes from the serious parties?

I always hear people say "Voting 3rd party takes away votes from serious contenders (either Democrat or Republican). I do hope the third parties take over America so these "You're wasting your vote" Republicans/Democrats can get a taste of their own medicine! When the 2 parties keep failing us over and over again and people (hopefully) wake up and start looking at other options and the Republicans/Democrats are the minority voters, won't it be nice to say "You're wasting your vote! So un-American!" Then again, if third party candidates get into office, votes most likely won't be being "wasted" anyway. So for the future of America and to the people who, right now, refuse to vote third party, from those of us who dare "waste our votes": YOU'RE WELCOME!

Doesn't he tell us what we want to hear so well? I'm loving it!

  • Can someone tell me if I understand the point of these conventions?

Am I right to think it's to hear people who are paid to say nice things about the guy they're endorsing and mean things about the guy they are running against for 3 days?

  • Did Ron Paul raise the standards for presidential candidates?

I realize he isn't going to win. At this point he can't because he lost the Republican nomination. However, did he at least raise the standards for candidates? Did he plant a seed for the future of America, in which we don't believe we have to settle for the "lesser of two evils"? Will 2016's election be one where the voters are more open minded to third party candidates. I will be voting for Gary Johnson because my conscience would not allow me to vote for either Obama or Romney, but perhaps in 2016 I'll be able to vote for him (or a candidate like him) with a much more optimistic feeling in my gut :)

  • How is it every thing you don't like is the fault of the other party? Why the double standards?

    Republicans:

Romney Care- cool; Obama Care- socialism

I saw a guy say opposing the war in Iraq was the conservative thing to do..since when?

Being denied a Chick-Fil-A in Chicago is a violation of the first amendment and those liberals need to quit whining; Ground Zero Mosque? Not in my country! how dare they??

    Democrats

Bush: War is bad! Obama: War is "eh, whatcha gonna do about it?"

For the democrats, reverse the Chick-Fil-A/Ground Zero Mosque thing.

Also: burning the flag, an obviously offensive thing "it's our first amendment right, deal with it"; Some republican makes a questionably racist comment, HATE CRIME.

So..do you guys honestly not realize you do these things or what?

  • Is Barack Obama a fulfillment of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream?

    Please honestly think about this.

Martin Luther King Jr's entire philosophy was anti-violence/nonviolent resistance. He most certainly was against war. If you pay attention to what Obama has done, you will notice he has only expanded war. yes, he got us out of Iraq, but there was hardly time to celebrate when he deployed more troops to Afghanistan, has our forces in Libya, has us expanding to Syria, bomings in Pakistan ( http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=6718124&pag... ). Was this MLK's dream?

  • Is Australia an awesome place to live or what?

So i saw yahoo answers question that asked if Australia was a good place to live. This was like 5 years ago though. The answers in this one were typically positive. "I love it here". "I moved there from the UK..it's great". Stuff like that! So, has much changed in 5 years? Is it still a pretty awesome place to live? Some pros and cons??

  • Are women smarter than men?

At the RNC last night I saw 4 different people speak, 2 men and 2 women.

1 man, I don't know what his name was, basically just said a bunch of cliche Republican things: "Let's get Obama out of the white house", etc. You know things Republicans want to hear..he was basically a big phony

Paul Ryan basically said 2 things. He talked about some sentimental stuff concerning his family, and went on to basically say "Obama sucks".

    NOW

    I saw two women speak

I found Condoleeza Rice's speech to be thoughtful. It had substance, it wasn't just empty rhetoric and attacking. I surely didn't agree with a lot that she said, but she was mature and thought-provoking.

The lady from New Mexico was also thoughtful and even funny!

So: Men used cliches and attacks. Women were thoughtful and humorous.

So, are women smarter than men? Are these particular women just smarter than these particular men? and also, here's a big one, should we have a woman for president?

  • Who was the biggest phony at the RNC? The most sincere?

Hopefully even the biggest Republican can admit some of these guys who talked tonight were big phonies. I think some of them were sincere though, I'll admit. So this question is to differentiate between the phonies and the sincere ones.

  • What lessons are to be learned from this story?

There were once two brothers who lived in an orphanage. Their parents had died in a fire. Big brother knew that when they became adults they'd be turned out of the orphanage and out on the street; so, with what he saw as the best intentions, he would rough little brother up and call him names. This was to toughen him up to face what he called "the big, bad world out there".

    But little brother did

not understand this. Big brother had never explained it. Big brother, when not beating him up or taunting him, would ignore little brother. He would go hang out with what friends he had in the orphanage, assuming little brother did the same.

But little brother had no friends. He had learned the lesson big brother sought to teach him all too well; he knew he couldn't trust anyone. So he would keep to himself, then eventually go wait for big brother in their room. That is all he knew to do.

One day big brother started to think, "perhaps I have been a little too rough with little brother. I will talk to him."

So he went to their room, where little brother was waiting, and said to him, "You know I love you, right?"

Little brother was caught off guard. He had never heard those words in his life. So he looked big brother right in the eyes, with a tear falling down his face, and said, "no".

  • Do you see the people in porn as human beings?

This is to people who watch porn. Do you see the people you are viewing as actual human being or do you see them as images/videos there for your convenience? Do you ever consider the person you're watching is somebody's sister (or brother). Somebody's mom (or dad). Would you like it if millions of people viewed your sister having sex? How about a video of somebody raping your mother, would that be entertaining to you?

  • What are some criticisms of Libertarianism?

When I first heard of the Libertarian party I thought it was a dream come true! They want to end the wars! and honestly they are the only party that wants to. There are other reasons I like them, but that is by far what got me into them.

However, I realize no party is perfect. Also, I think they may be a bit extreme on some things. Like wanting to cut Medicare. I don't think that would be a good thing. Also some things I am not sure about, like I think they want to get rid of some programs like the EPA. What effect would that have?

So ya, pretty much what I'm trying to say is: Though I align myself most with Libertarians, what are some criticisms? I am being open-minded about this

  • Why do I expect so much of human beings?

I was thinking about it, after ranting much then calming down..Why do I expect so much from human beings? I have seen them fail over and over again, why should I expect things to change because I got on Yahoo! Answers and ranted? I used to get on the internet and argue with strangers all the time and I realized, yet again, that it is absurd. Nobody ever changes their mind. Nobody ever feels your passion. Nobody feels the same outburst of rage you do and often times they feel the same sort of rage but for the opposite reason. Why do I expect to "appeal to their humanity"? what is "humanity" anyway? I once wrote a poem in which I posed a series of questions: "Are we failures by design or evolution? and what's it matter any way?/ Are we really trying to come up with a solution/ or are we trying to figure out who's to blame?" and I thought "have I become just another cynical scape-goater??" How can I possibly expect to affect other human beings? What am I doing? Am I leading by example? Who am I leading, the "frustrated and overwhelmed"? Isn't "frustrated and overwhelmed" a way to describe the majority of the people on here? Isn't that why we get on here and do these things? So here I say I'm not going to change anybody's mind by ranting. I probably won't change anybody's mind by being calm and reasonable. All I can do is live my life the best I can and perhaps not be such a perfectionist. To the Yahoo! Answers community, good night and good luck.

  • Have you ever been told to leave this country?

I have. You know the type. "Love it or leave it" which roughly translates to, "pretend America is incapable of evil or leave!" And I ask, "where to, friend? another country set on world domination? Or perhaps I should go to a country that America eventually plans to bomb/invade..that shouldn't be hard to find!". So okay, hypothetically one of these people actually "buys me a first class ticket to the nearest third world country". Will I be part of the "collateral damage" when America decides to invade the country you send me to? Will I enjoy the dictator America sets up in the country you send me to? Gee, I'm real sorry I don't just look the other way, wave my flag, and say "GO AMERICA!" like you do! I'm sorry I'm not blinded by my patriotism. Is that a qualification of living in America, being blinded by your patriotism? I got news for you, there's a BIG BIG world out there full of people who aren't Americans and they deserve to live every bit as much as I do! So, if denying them that makes me a bad American, I honestly couldn't care less! Good day!
