How can we possibly keep gay marriage illegal?

I am a Christian and many of my fellow Christians oppose gay marriage, but I must ask:

How can we keep gay marriage illegal? How can we claim to hold the key to other men's morality? We do not and cannot. The only thing that has kept gay marriage illegal is tradition. Just like slavery was legal for so long..the only reason we got away with that was because of people's attitudes. Logically and legally, it makes absolutely no sense to deny another man his rights. On what basis? You don't like it? Absurd!

It is nothing short of arrogant to think that we hold in our hands the power to deny someone their right, as if WE have the power to just hand gay people the right to marry (or to deny it). Absolutely absurd, but it continues today. I guess we will, technically, have to "hand them" their rights, but the right was set in stone in our constitution a long time ago.

Update:

Thanks to people who actually answered the question!

I think some of you guys think I'm actually asking for a strategy on how to keep gay marriage illegal :p

At least "Silence" admits he/she didn't read the whole thing.

All in all, I just had a pretty good laugh.

Again, to people who read the whole question and answered it in the right context, thanks!

Well its pretty much the same with any law. Pretty much every counter argument against it can be applied to other laws. What it comes down to is popular support.

I didn't even bother reading this all but i would just like to point out some things. HOW is gay marriage affecting your life? If you are not gay.. trying to find justice and rights to being gay.. why does gay marriage bother you so much??? I highly doubt it's being a wall to your everyday life. If its keeping you from enjoying your coffee in the morning, taking a walk or breathing air, i wouldn't have any business in someone else's marriage. That's like... being mad at someone for eating a chocolate bar because YOU are on a diet.

    Just.. ugh...

The fact is, it won't be kept illegal all that much longer -- which is pretty amazing when you consider how fast the notion went from unthinkable to actually happening.

Gays just want to live their lives just like everyone else.

Liberals want to trivialize marriage, part of the communist influence to undermine our society- attack family, faith, God, marriage, patriotism and the basic foundation of our capitalist society.

Holy rollers want to legislate morality.

Keep in mind, once you agree to gay marriage, the demands will never stop. Next, will be demands for equality in adoption; then, the demand will be to make it a crime for schools to allow any preference between hetero & homo lifestyle; liberals will want schools to teach children, they have to choose to be gay or not. Any favortism to a hetero lifestyle, will be a hate crime. Finally, liberals will want gays to be thought of as victims, will demand gay national holidays and making Barney Frank's glory-hole, a national monument.

Because gays are in partnership with liberals to support each other's causes, I oppose gays who support socialism and far left politics. Do not bend over to liberal demands, they are like terrorists, every compromise is perceived as weakness and another demand will follow.

The reps will fight it to the end.

The definition of conservative is reluctant to change.

They did the same thing w/ the Civil Rights Act.

    They LOVE to dictate morality.

The fact of the matter is that we need to leave religion out of it. You need to leave your person feelings out if.

Do I agree with the lifestyle, no. But who am I to say they don't deserve the right to be married?

I agree with you, and it's only a matter of time until we have marriage equality.

Keep the religious right bigoted, fearful and paranoid.

You probably won't have a problem keeping that up.

I think homosexuality is immoral... but who the hell is the government to regulate that?

BUT, I do think the government should regulate people killing their kids. (Abortion)
