What are YOU wearing?
Polls & Surveys1 year agoHave you successfully defied your self-consciousness about wearing a protective mask in public?
Or are you going to regret that you didn't just go for it to preserve your health?
This virus situation is serious.
I'm wearing a GVS Elipse right now.
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 year agoWhat is a good affordable portable wifi antenna?
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 year agoWhat is a good affordable (up to $50) portable wifi antenna with decent gain?
I need to use my laptop out in a parking lot.
The network is secured, but I am authorized to use it
and I have the necessary key stored in my konfuzer.
The closest I can get to the wireless router is about 80 to 85 feet.
Signal strength now is about as low as can be made to work at all.
There is NO way to add an antenna to the router,
nor to replace the present router with a different one,
so all of the improvement Has to be at My location.
Pearl, if you try to answer this I will report you, so Stay Away.
You don't know Sh*t about Anything.
3 AnswersComputer Networking1 year agoBefore transistors were available, what tubes/valves were used for driving incandescent lamps?
In the early days of computers, there were of course no transistors.
There was at least one type of tube that was specifically designed to drive regular incandescent lamps.
I suspect there were actually several types available.
The one I really want to know about was used in a homemade color organ that was either a one-off or a project built from a magazine article.
Many online searches have failed to turn up the type of which I personally saw and handled three samples, so I Will Not accept responses saying that there was no such thing.
It was, in fact, listed in one tube manual
that later disappeared --- and it was the Only one found with the listing.
I think it was a 5000 series or 7000 series 4-digit type number.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics4 years agoWhy would a laptop drop to a drastically lower data rate or completely disconnect from wifi every few minutes during active use?
My HP Compaq NC6220 running XP Pro
keeps popping up the box that says
"Wireless connection is now connected"
every few minutes.
This never happened when it was new,
and it has not been damaged.

restore the version of Answers they just scrapped?
I've been participating for about 3 years,
and have answered thousands of questions,
racking up over 60,000 points in that time.
Now I can't figure out how to submit an answer!
Where is the "submit" button???
5 AnswersMy Yahoo8 years agoWhat is the procedure for uploading a VLC Media Player video to YouTube?
I made a video on VHS, copied it to a DVD,
then stored it on the hard drive in my laptop
(HP Compaq NC6220 running XP Pro).
I don't remember how or why it became a VLC file, but it did.
Now I need to know exactly how to transfer it to Youtube.
I have a YouTube account and, so far,
have successfully uploaded one video from Picasa.
5 AnswersYouTube8 years agoWhat is the least expensive good replacement battery for my HP Compaq NC6220 laptop?
I have looked and looked and looked online, only to be
thoroughly frustrated by the confusing mess of choices.
Prices range from around $14 for what is certain to be a piece of unusable junk
to almost as much as the laptop cost to begin with.
Some 'authorities' say to buy only original batteries from the laptop's manufacturer.
Nice idea, but I can't afford that... even $10 is a lot of money for me right now.
My hard limit is $60 including all taxes and shipping.
I don't want general-purpose links to sites -- I've seen all of them, and I'm sick of them.
Please provide the name of the source, the exact item number, and the price.
Don't suggest that I get a new laptop: There is no money available to pay for it.
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoWhat made this Uniden BC760XLT fail?
Uniden BC760XLT scanner radio, serial # 05002596, code ODIO.
No options have ever been installed.
This unit worked perfectly at an estate sale on July 23, 2005.
I shut it off, packed it in its original box, and bought it.
Later that day, I unpacked it, connected power
(factory-original wall wart), and switched it on.
To my great disappointment, the display lit up, but was absolutely blank.
There were no apparent results from pressing any button.
The only controls that work are volume and squelch:
The unit seems to be capable of receiving signals
(it does receive band noise) and can be quieted,
but it won't change frequency (not that one can tell
without visible characters in the display).
Checked lithium backup cell: Measured 3.3V in circuit.
8V regulator seems OK:
Measured 7.8V across functioning display lamp.
A technician at Universal Radio suggested resetting the unit
by holding 2, 9, and MAN while switching power on.
I tried that; it made no difference whatsoever.
All evidence points to the conclusion that the firmware has been lost,
but since there are other possibilities, one must keep trying.
That's why this question is being posted.
I don't have a service manual. Looking for one has proved futile.
The company doesn't service any model over a certain age,
and this one is far past that point, so forget that idea.
SO: What failed, and what can be done about it?
>> Based on my experience and the remarks of others,
I believe I've figured out the reason for the name Uniden:
If it doesn't work, "U NEED EN" new one.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics9 years agoWhat is your experience, good or bad, with the Kenwood TH-K2AT amateur 2m HT?
I obtained my Tech license last August, then in December
(finally) bought a Kenwood TH-K2AT so I could get on the air.
So far, I like it well enough, and I've read a large number
of positive reviews of this model on ehams.net,
but I wonder what others think of it.
What say you, fellow Yahoos?
1 AnswerOther - Electronics9 years agoOn a DVD-R, a recording was unintentionally erased. Is there any chance of recovery?
Before crafting an answer, please read and fully understand ALL of this:
I have a DVD-R with a perfectly good recording on it that was
unintentionally erased (both occurred on the same day in 2007)
due to going through the menu choices on a standalone
DVD recorder (Sony RDR-GX7) at an excessive speed.
Of course, the recorder won't allow reversal of the mistake;
it has no "undo" option for erasures.
The disc has not been finalized, and nothing else has been
recorded on it after the undesirable erasure was made.
My konfuzer disc drive plays DVDs, but does not record them,
so I have no convenient way to try any special software myself.
What I want to know is:
Is there ANY method by which to make a DVD recording drive
recognise the recording on the disc and write a TEMPORARY TOC
so that the existing recording will be recognised by the original recorder?
It is vitally important that another recording can be added to the exisiting one,
and that the original machine can be used to finalize the disc so that
the menu will match those of other discs of similar material.
In other words, the process of recovery must NOT result in the disc being finalized!
If you can provide useful info, your input will be appreciated.
Single-word answers, spurious remarks, jokes,
and other drivel will be given negative votes.
