  • Teaching waltz and Charleston at friend's wedding...how much should I charge?

I know both dance styles very well, but I have never done anything like this before. How much should someone charge for something like this?? My friend needs to know ASAP and I really don't know what to tell her. All I know is that they are on a budget and they can't pay too much.

    Any help?? Thanks!

  • TV movie about a ballerina who gets injured?

Does anyone know what this movie is? It's a made for TV movie.

A girl who is training to be a ballerina but she takes a fall and has a permanent injury that prevents her from becoming a professional dancer.

I'm pretty sure it was her mother's dream and the mother is in denial.

  • I really need to find the duet version of "How Could I Ever Know" from Secret Garden ASAP!!!?

I already have the first part (just Lily's part) but I need to find the second part (the part where Lord Craven comes in) as soon as possible! I did not think it was going to be so hard to find. Or maybe it's not and I just don't know where to look.

Does anyone know? Preferably something I can pay for and just print, but if not, that's fine. As long as I find it!! Thanks so much!

  • Seasonal Effective Order...light bulb question...?

I live in Northern Indiana, and oh yes, we're coming upon that time of year! The time of year where the sun doesn't shine for weeks and weeks at a time!

Well, I don't do very well during this time of year. Last year was HORRIBLE!! I barely mustered up enough energy to get myself through Thanksgiving and Christmas last year! It was just bad! I have lots of plans to help myself get through winter this year without letting myself get depressed, because let me tell you, once you hit that state, there's no pulling out of it. That was my experience last year.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if I could get a full spectrum light bulb that I could just put in a regular desk lamp. Light boxes are super expensive and I can't afford to buy one. If I could just get a bulb, how many watts should I get it in? Is there a specific one I should be looking for? And where should I go about looking for one? I'm sure they don't just sell them anywhere. And I need something affordable!

Thanks in advance for the help! I am hoping that this year I won't have to dread winter at all because I know I'll have something that will help :)

  • It's Thursday night...need to make a HUGE decision by Sunday and need advice!!?

First of all, let me warn you that this may end up being a pretty lengthy post. And let me just say that the people I need advice from are those in the professional performing arts world...people who studied voice or dance in college, or those who own their own dance/performing arts studios now.

    Here is my situation...

Currently, I am getting ready to enter my third year of college in a few weeks now. I am a vocal performance major, which I love so much! I have an incredible voice teacher who has helped grow my voice immensely! And I am involved in several performing groups at my school. However, I have had a very strong passion for dance and choreography that has grown so much over the last couple of years. That passion has now completely surpassed my love for singing, although i'm not quite sure I'd want to give that up completely. I never brought these thoughts to my parents because I didn't think they would ever approve (they ALREADY don't approve of vocal performance, there was no way I was gonna bring up dance as another option).

My original plan was to bravely talk to them and have us discuss my continuing as a voice major but seeing if it might be possible for me to start training in ballet again...catching up, getting back into shape, getting more choreography experience...really focusing in on the dance side of things as well as the music side (like i said, i don't want to give that up completely). That way I could stay at my current college (which has no dance program) because I love it, I wouldn't have to leave my voice teacher, and I'd be getting more dance under my belt. It sounded like a good plan...

...so that's what I brought up. And the issue, of course (the one I was afraid of) was money. My parents don't think I should spend time and money on a degree if it's not really what I wanna do (and i kind of agree). They know and understand that my dream is to have my own company that I would choreograph for (or to find one)...also, there is taking into consideration that I have not been doing very well in my college classes. I have failed two classes, barely passed a few others, and retaking the ones I failed of course means repaying for classes that we have already paid for once. Part of me thinks that I can't handle college, and my parents agree.

Having said ALL of that, my parents have said that I have to come up with a plan by this coming Sunday (August 8)!!! FAST! So here are a few of the plans that I've been thinking...but all of them have downfalls:

    1) Staying at my current college with my current major and take dance classes elsewhere.

    --> Problem: Money

    2) Leaving my current college and transferring somewhere else that has both a music AND dance program.

--> Problems: This would be a very difficult thing for me to do since my whole life is practically at this college! All of my friends and involvement. Plus, I've already committed to many things this semester already...I'd be letting a ton of people down...especially my voice teacher. And speaking of my voice teacher, I truly think that she is BRILLIANT and it would be hard for me to find a new one that measures up to who she has been for me.

    3) Stopping college to just focus on my true passion, dance, since I really don't think I can handle the classes right now. With this option I would focus solely on where I would want to live, where I would want to open my own studio (or find one to teach at), and what road I would want to go down with my dancing.

--> Problem: I don't really know how to go about this option. Do I NEED a degree to pursue what I want here? And if so, what kind of degree should I have? At this point, this is sounding like the best option to me, but I just want to make sure that leaving school isn't a completely bad idea.

    4) Take this fall semester...continue with current voice major, take a few dance classes where I can, get some advice from dance instructors, voice instructors alike, do my Junior Voice Recital that i've been working SO HARD toward...and take the time to decide what I want to do. By December, I'll have had enough time to decide.

--> Problem: this is the one that really sounds the best to me...it's just those classes that I'm going to completely struggle through.

Okay...that was a lot, I know. Sorry! Hopefully someone on here can help me and give me an honest opinion of what you think! I know it's ultimately my choice, but it's a big one...and I think I need to "pick the brains" of those who are already in these kinds of professions.

    Thank you!!

  • Dance scholarships for non-dance majors?

I'm a dancer but I'm not a dance major (i'm actually a music major)...my college doesn't have a dance program. still, i'm in HUGE need of extra scholarships. I'm finishing up my second year right now. I've applied for several music scholarships, but does anyone know of any dance scholarships that i can apply for even though i'm not a dance major? that would help me out SO MUCH! Thank you!

  • What should I call my summer performing arts program?

I'm starting a summer program for kids in my community offering classes and private instruction in dance, voice, and musical theatre. it's open to all ages and levels. but i am at a total loss of what to call it! i don't want it to be anything cheezy but it obviously can't be the same as another program somewhere because i want to make a website for it online.

the studio that i attended for dance was called Eclipse Performing Arts. In this case they picked a word which here means: to surpass, or outshine. it'd be cool if i could come up with a word like that but i am racking my brain and can't come up with anything!!

i'd like to get this done and ready for advertising within the next couple of days...thanks for the help!!

  • What episodes of Gilmore Girls are these quotes from?

I would like to know the season and the episodes that these quotes are from:

Luke: I'm just having a bad day.

    Lorelai: zzz.

    Luke: what?

Lore: Dayzzz. You've been sitting around here barking at people for days!

    Luke: I do not bark.

    Lore: Yes, Cujo, you do.

    Luke: I'm always like this.

    Lore: No Benji, you're not.

    Luke: I'll be fine tomorrow.

Lore: Really Lassie? Why is that?

    ------

Emily: You should really eat more greens, lorelai.

Lorelai: I plan to eat a five dollar bill later.

    Thanks!!

  • Good song for a "sassy" little 9-year-old :-)?

One of my students coming to me this summer is an adorable 9-year-old girl who really knows how to put on a show. she has a very nice little voice and she loves to act things out. so i think she would really enjoy something really fun to sing where she can maybe add a little "sass". For some reason, I am just at a loss for Broadway or Disney songs that would be good for her. I've looked at list after list but I just can't seem to find anything, or maybe I've overlooked something. If anyone could give me suggestions, I would really appreciate it! Thanks :-)

  • this is an attempt at a movie description...jane seymour is in it...does anyone know what it is???

there's a girl and her mother (the mother is played by jane seymour, i know that). the mother is kind of a mess and i'm pretty sure she's a single mother. there's one scene that i can remember from it where the mother gets hurt and her daughter helps take care of her. later the daughter says, "you're supposed to be the mother. not me." then the mother says, "don't you think i know that, godda**it?" and the girl says, "and why are you swearing?"

yeah and that's all i can remember. sorry. but if anyone could tell me what it is i'd like to watch it again. i think i was probably too young to understand what was going on and i like jane seymour so i'd like to watch it.

    thanks.

  • what is this classical song? it's from an old commercial.?

ok so does anyone remember that commerical (it might even have been on more recently...i don't know) where there was a guy and a girl and all you could see were their shadows on the wall? he gives her a piece of jewelry and you can see the jewelry but you can only see the people's sillouettes on the wall. well anyway, there's a classical song playing in the background. does anyone know what it is?

i think it's a commercial for Zales jewelry but i'm not sure.

sorry if i didn't describe it too well. i'm not very good at that.

    thanks!

  • a song/dance for 1st and 2nd grade boys?

    hey there!

i'm choreographing a dance/music show for a day camp and i've been doing it for the last three years. but this year, i'm at a total loss as to what i should do with the 1st and 2nd grade boys group! the older boys don't like to dance or sing so i'm having them do some acting. but what about these 1/2 boys? i wanna have them do kind of a fun little routine. 3 years ago they did that Numma numma techno song, 2 years ago they did Elvis, last year they did the Pirates of the Caribbean theme and i let them work with toy swords and stuff.

but right now i have ZERO ideas for what i could possibly do with them! any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh by the way...the show is not themed this year (which could be part of my problem...oy!) so any song would be fine.

    thanks!

  • can anyone give me songs and/or scripture verses that help you keep your faith during hard times?

These are the songs I have come up with so far:

    Let it Fade--Jeremy Camp

    Walk by Faith--Jeremy Camp

    Held--Natalie Grant

    Miles and Miles Away--David Phelps

Praise you in This Storm--Casting Crowns

    You Never Let Go--Matt Redman

As far as verses I already known of Romans 8:28 (For we know that all things work...etc.) which is one of the most well known verses in the Bible...but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

any other songs or verses would be most helpful. The sooner the better. I'd like to make this CD and write out these verses by the end of the day. This is for a friend of mine who is really dealing with a huge struggle right now and she's finding it very difficult to have any faith. i thought this might encourage her a little. thanks in advance for the help!
