What is happens if someone takes me to court and I die before judgement is reached?

What would happen?

Update:

Someone is threatening to sue me for harassment. I don't have an estate. I barely have a dollar to my name. If I'm dead, how would that be fair if I can't defend myself?

I imagine they would sue your estate.

Edit: I hope this question and your additional details are just rhetorical.

In the question of harassment, most people sue to stop the harassment, not necessarily for a monetary claim. In this case, the suit would be abandoned upon your death. However, if the harassment was so bad that they have mountains of evidence of the psychological trauma you've inflicted upon them, they might STILL be able to make a monetary claim on your estate. (estate just means what you own....car, posessions...not necessarily a Southern Plantation) This is unlikely though.

If you ARE harassing this person....simply stop. If they haven't filed yet and are just threatening to in order to scare you into submission...don't call their bluff. Just leave them alone. If you aren't harassing them, you have nothing to worry about. They'll be hard pressed to prove anything that didn't actually happen. The burden of proof will be on them, not you.

Like I said, I hope your question is rhetorical and you're not planning on doing anything drastic. "This too shall pass".

If the judge is able to make a ruling after you are dead, they will go after your assets, if you have no assets then there's nothing they can get.

It means you won't have to worry about it any more.
