Windows 7 64-bit: Tone in Volume (Level Bar) not working & in Skype... Youtube works fine?

This is a bizarre thing that just happened to my HP G6 laptop... All sounds work BUT not Skype nor when you adjust the volume level by entering the "speakers & headphones" icon and adjusting the bar. Usually it makes a ding noise to verify the level of sound but it doesn't make a noise nor does the bar level (next to the actual thing you're moving up and down) light up as I believe it did before. I tried fixing the driver, did a restore (to previous version) and then upgraded to newest version. Nothing's changed. Device manager says it's up to date and no issues. Windows sounds are working fine... Maybe a glitch with Skype is hijacking the noise from the volume adjustment settings? Buttons on the keyboard to adjust sound work fine, Youtube videos work fine, etc. I'm a bit lost here. Any suggestions?

I have the very similar challenge. I have an HP laptop preloaded with Vista 64bit and that i'll't get IE 32 bit or Firefox to run properly. Loading a web page takes continuously employing them. The IE sixty 4 bit is smoking - besides the indisputable fact that it would not help Flash! attempt surfing the internet with out Flash participant... you gained't get some distance. So, what do I do? Run the painfully slow 32 bit version that helps Flash or run the really quickly 64bit version that doesnt help Flash? i'm extraordinarily miffed at Microsoft and Adobe for failing to imagine this by ability of. i'm also extraordinarily miffed at HP for setting up a 64bit OS that couldn't totally supported.
