What do I do if I painted my deck the wrong color?
I painted my deck in two different sections and on two different day. I think the first day I didnt stir the stain enough and the second section of my deck is a different color. I tried removing the stain but only got some of it off. Can I get a darker stain to cover it? Or will it show through? Any suggestions?

hard to say what more stain will do 1 you can flip all the boards and start over 2 you could consider a solid body stain looks like paint ,has many colors to choose from and will completely cover 3 say you are artistic and did it on pupose I used a solid body in sage green on my old deck because of weathering and pecan tree staining looks great, good luck from TEXAS

Going with a darker stain is always easier than trying to lighten it. It's helpful to apply stain before the sun shines on the deck and heats it up, because that will affect the result, as well. Yes, thorough and constant stirring is essential. And if using more than 1 container of stain, get a 3rd, empty container and stir the 2 stains together to ensure uniformity. Also, is this a true stain or paint-stain? If stain, that is usually applied, then you wait 5 or 10 minutes and then wipe off any unabsorbed stain...tricky at best. An alternative is to get a floor sander and strip the deck, clean off sawdust, etc., well and start all over.

I did almost the same thing about 2 years ago. I used a red stain( going for that old barn boards look) and it was a solid body stain. I used stain remover and lots and lots of elbow grease. I then let it sit for a few months and then came back with a clear sealer (Thompson if I remember) and it worked out pretty good.

stain is very difficult and almost impossible to remove.
if you have used a transparent or semi-transparent stain, then you could cover it with a solid stain which almost looks like paint. best to check it out with your paint store

Power wash your deck and weight till next year to restain. That way it will be ez-er to match back up. Darker stain will just make it look bad.
