In my state, why do you need a separate class just to drive a taxi? Why couldn’t they just include it with a class D license?

    I think you are mistaken, you can use the regular class.

    Because you are hauling passengers.  You are not driving anything the size of a bus, but you have the responsibilities of a bus driver.
