COBRA Insurance?
I recently got a new job. I want to keep my vision insurance through cobra. I was scheduled to be able to use my contact benefits ($145 credit) on May 1st. I really just want to keep it until then so I can use those benefits and get contacts. I logged into my insurance portal (I have VSP) and it of course shows that I no longer am enrolled in a plan. Do I just call VSP and set everything up with the new premium? And will my benefits and benefit dates be the same, so I can use those benefits on the 1st of May? Thanks for any help.

COBRA is continuing the insurance program with your prior employer, but at your cost. Unfortunately, you cannot "pick and choose" which benefits you want to continue - it's all (exactly the same as the last date you were employed) or nothing.

You have 60 days from leaving employment to elect COBRA coverage.
If it has been over that period, then it's too late to elect COBRA.
An employer has 30 days to send the COBRA election offer.
Between the period that your employee coverage ends and the COBRA election paperwork is processed, you will be considered to not have coverage. However, any benefits you use during that period will be paid once the paperwork is processed.
