No. The Jetty still exists there. And even with time the Jetty will disappear until no longer recognizable, but the idea still exists. As long as the idea exists the Spiral Jetty exists. Once something becomes art, nothing can disqualify it as art. Once something is seen as art, it cannot be unseen - only forgotten.

They usually stand in the middle of the gallery, talking loudly about their lofty opinions and making sure that everyone for 20 feet around can catch their 'splainin.  If they work they are called "nartists", if not they are called fools. Nice to know that Donna is the only one who gets Picasso.  How could we ever be SO WRONG?!?!? The point being that it doesn't effing matter, it's just an art school exercise.

I would say no, but apparently different people have totally different ideas about what's art and what's not.

Guernica, perhaps Picasso's greatest work of art (or best-known) is in the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.  It's only viewable at times the museum is open.  Does that make it not art?

And yet I know a few people who don't believe Picasso ever created a single piece of actual art!  Donna, who lives next door, gets passionate on the subject!  She believes Picasso was a charlatan.  So whether Guernica is art or not depends on what you see as art!  A spiral jetty on the Great Salt Lake is even more likely to be called 'not art', even when you CAN see it.
