How do I get my computer to recognized my WD internal hard drive?

It's a 500GB green hard drive. I'm using a 2008 Dell inspiron desktop Windows 7 upgraded from Windows XP. The Bios recognizes it. I attached it inside computer as a second hard drive. Windows doesn't recognizes it.

This is due to the HDD not being formatted. This is very simple. Follow these steps:

Go to START, CONTROL PANEL, then select ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS. A new window should pop out.

Now, select COMPUTER MANAGEMENT (a new windows will pop out again), then go to DISK MANAGEMENT. You should see here all you HDDs. On the bottom of the window you should see your HDD black colored, which indicates that you have not formatted your HDD.

Right click on your HDD and you shoul find something like Change Drive Letter And Paths.

Then you need to set your HDD letter (mine is D) and some setups and let it format.

    Hope this helps.

The first time you install the drive with content, Windows has to index the drive before making it available. With large drives, that process can take one or more hours. When windows is finished the inventory, it will show up and become available.

Note: If the drive is brand new and has never been used, you must initialize the drive. Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management> and the new drive wizard should start up and guide you.

You need to go to computer management.

Windows wont recognise a drive until is has a partition on it and is formatted. When you put a blank drive in windows it does not really see it until you set the drive up with a filesystem.

BE REALLY careful in computer management, its easy to format the wrong drive.
