Engine power loss issues?

I have experienced some power issues with my truck over an unknown amount of time (6 months maybe) I believe it started with an egr code, which I have done nearly everything in my power to resolve and have not found a resolution. Gas mileage decreased but I didn't really have an aggravated problem with acceleration/power, though it has never been as quick to respond as I would expect. More recently, I upgraded my tire size and as expected, gas mpg went down a little further, but I have noticed a big decrease in the truck's ability to accelerate. Going on the freeway it takes at least 2x the distance to reach the speed I would before( I took speedometer inaccuracy into account), and on inclines it has no power. To me, I don't see how the tires could affect that, that almost sounds like a clogged cat. In the 2 years and 17k miles I've had it, it has also never seemed to have a W.O.T., floor it and barely any response except in 1st-3rd gears. Dummy computer throttle control?

I would also not expect a vehicle with 53k on it to have a clogged cat, but I wouldn't be surprised as the previous owner managed to burn through most of the clutch before I got it at 37k(unknown fact at purchase!)

Your tires are to big, I'm guessing.

    This goes into detail.

'Whenever larger-than-stock tires are installed on a truck, it will have a direct effect on the truck's performance. Why? It has to do with the effective gear ratio. Your truck comes from the factory with the optimum axle gear ratio to work with the truck's engine, transmission, and stock tire combination as well as provide a good balance between acceleration and fuel economy. When taller tires are installed on a truck but the axle ratios stay the same; the effective gear ratio is reduced. This means the engine is forced to operate below its power band, and performance and fuel economy suffer as a result. In order to restore the effective gear ratio (and the truck's performance), you'll need to have the axle gears swapped to lower (numerically higher) ratios. '

Either go back to your old tires or swap your gears.

Changin to BIGGER tires affects the DRIVE GEAR RATIOS< and can SLOW YOU DOWN< but I have OTHER IDEAS FOR YOU! The 3.0 FORD is a GREAT and sturdy engine and should NEVER use a drop of oil! It is made the way BENZ makes their engines with HIGH SILICON content in the CYLINDER WALLS! Take $20-30 to ANY OIL CHANGE place and then have them REMOVE THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE and clean it up to SHOWROOM inside! Have them clean the THROTTLE BODY as well! This is what FINE TUNES and adjust teh amount of AIR etnering your engien as you DRIVE! A dirty IAC ruins MILEAGE< power, adn economy as well! PAY A BIT MORE, and get a FULL MOTOR FLUSH to remove all the VALVOLINE and other WAX BASED Junk oils used previsouly! Then use MOBIL ONE 0W-30 oil with a MOBIL ONE Synthetic FILTER! You will NOTICE a HUGE improvement in POWER after this is done! A DIRTY IAC will RUIN power, and mileage, and BAD OIL is the usual cause of this as SLUDGE develops and STOPS the IAC from doing it's JOB, to ADD MORE AIR as the O2 sensor ASKS FOR! Once the IAC is proper cleaned up, REPLACE the SPARK PLUGS with BOSCH IRIDIUM plugs that get MORE POWER and MILEAGE from each piston stroke! At 53k miels you will NOT have a CLOGGED UP CAT< but the IAC that is dirty will AFFECT the cat by clogging it up and the O2 sensors as WELL! <<I USE AMSOI LPOWER FOAM and GUMOUT to cleane these thigns up, and if you use them to clean teh PCV VALVE as well it wil clean teh CLOKE and VARNISH from yoru piston rigns adn tops as well as remvoe the GUNK from your VALVE SEALS! In a 3.0 TAURUS< I used to get 30 MPG al day long, ANY WEAHTER TYPE! It was GREAT car! A TRUCK wil not be as fuel efficient, but it shodul be BETTER than what you have! TIRE SIZES affect POWER and mielage in different ways! GET FUEL EFFIECINT TIRES with HIGH SILICON side walls! They do NOT rate tires fro FUEL EFFIEICNCY YET< but MAYBE they wil soon! MICHIELIN and even HANKOON have FUEL EFFICEINT TIRES with LOWER rollilng resistances! thsi SAVE ON GAS and give a mroe QUIET and comfy RIDE as well! POWER WASH egnei with GUNK ORANGE to remvoe ALL Tr5aces of ROAD SALT and GRUNGE that may be affecting the WIRING HARNESSES and BATTERY CABLESa t both ends! A CLEAN engine will dissipate HEAT more evenly and give a BETTER smoother quality RIDE! GOOD LUCK to you! and BYE NOW! E-mail me BACK with your results! GOOD LUCK!! CONVERTERS do NOT get clogged from AGE< but they WILL GET PLUGGED UP by a dirty AIR CONTROL VALVE! The use of MOBIL ONE 0W-30 will PREVENT your sensors from RUINING mileage and power! CHECK YOUR ENGINE TEMP SWITCH as well! LISTEN for your COOLING FANS to go on! GET BETTER TIRES (MAYBE!) BRIDGESTONE makes GREAT TRUCK TIRES that are EFFICIENT! GODO LUCK!
