So he can't dictate that final letter, which would have been the high point ofhis fantasy. Now remember, he hates his real life, and he had begun living his fantasy by mailing the letters to himself and even buying financial newspapers. So he can't finish his fantasy, because his daughter doesn't have the typewriter to type that final letter.
