Cam you use a th350 torque converter on a 700r4?

I have a diesel 700r4 I'm putting in my camaro, I want a new torque converter for it and the price difference between a 700 & 350 if like $60, but they are both 30 spline versions. Could I use the th350 converter? Also the 700 has lockup but I have no way to run it, would using the th350 converter get rid of the lockup if I can use it?

Update:

I got a govenor from a gas powered 700r4, so I dont have ti worry about that. I would just like to have more than 1200 stall.

Lockup is easy to run. Trucks in the 80's (Full size, C/K) used a vacuum regulated TCC setup before they went fuel injection in 1987. Very simple to setup.

Not sure why you'd be putting a diesel trans in that car, while the gear ratios will be the same, the governor is going to put the shift points in a HORRIBLE spot for a gas car with decent rear gears.

And no, the trans are not all the same. Ignoring the governor, and all the millions of other changes (thrust bushings vs bearings, number of clutches, etc) in 1987 they changed the casting of the transmission, making it far better. But hey, what do I know?

the engines are different, the trans are all the same,a 700r4 is a 700r4 no matter what engine it is bolted too.and no you have to have a lock up torque converter if you want to use the 700r4 trans.or buy a turbo 350 B&M trans from summitracing than you can use the non-locking torque converter.

The lock characteristic on your transmission is controlled via the PCM. (skill practice administration Module) in case you could run a test on your motor vehicle it permit you to comprehend what's faulty. jointly as the 700R4 isn't an electronically controlled transmission, the lockup characteristic is controlled via the PCM. the right adjustment of the television (Throttle Valve) cable is severe because it controls shift factors and line rigidity. i'm hoping this facilitates.

    No you can't

You need the torque converter to lock up....otherwise you burn up the trans.

Source(s): buddy of mine found out the hard way.....now he bought another trans
