question about reusing a sbc camshaft?

If I use a used comp cams camshaft do I have to rerun the break-in procedure? I have all of the lifters labeled with what bore they go in. I have changed valve springs since it was used. the cam is hydraulic flat tappet.

No.. Once the cam and lifters are broke in, then they are broke in for life if same lifters go on same lobes as they came from.

    No more break in needed

First the wheel question - for a 1980 elky, the production variances are such that unquestionably the width of the rear tire which you will extra wholesome would variety as much as a a million/2 inch or so, so its good so you might degree to the wheel lip and degree the backspacing to the factor the place you will possibly intervene. verify the two sides, as a results of fact they could no longer easily be the tolerance! Secondly, i'd recommend a good cam - no longer completely "rv" point, yet one that doesn't lavatory you down low. once you're pondering the edelbrock stuff, why do no longer you proceed with the matched set and get the performer-plus cam? EDL-2102 would desire to extra wholesome your invoice correct, and it has a real docile idle. in case you do not have the aspects yet - evaluate saving up in common terms a sprint extra money and get the entire Performer kit, which provides the cam, intake, heads and carb, which will assure you a matched, appearing mixture. for yet an selection selection that could purely provide you a sprint extra "oomph", you may look at Crane's PowerMax kit that includes the lifters as nicely - its section CRN-113901. The era and raise are in common terms a tad extra effective. i'm jaded - I easily have a 'seventy 9 Camaro, so i'd say the Camaro gets my nod. If I have been to purchase an elky, i'd seek for the early Nineteen Seventies, on the grounds that i admire the nostril on the older truck.

    Well...

Did you install new cam bearings ???

If not, then just keep the engine rpm's down during the first week or two of driving but you wont have to follow the break in procedure

But use plenty of lithium ( white ) grease during install and change your oil within 24 hours after getting it running

The lifter bores in a Small Chevy all point different directions, so if it's not the same block the wear patterns already established will mean nothing. Different block, re break in with new lifters. Same block it''ll be fine.
