Can I change the processor of my Dell Inspiron 530 tower computer to an i5 processor?
It's not the slim model and about 7 years old which ran on a Windows XP? Can i just change the processor? Thanks

The processor architecture is not the same. Without knowing the actually motherboard in it, I would guess the best you could do would be upgrade to a higher end duo or maybe an intel quad. To use an i5, you would have to replace the motherboard so the i5 would even physically fit. Essientially you'll have a different computer then, and would have to reinstall windows, etc.

No...
The processor and the motherboard are always a matched pair. Your Inspriron takes a socket 775 processor. The Core i5 processor is a Socket 1155 processor. You always have to have a matching motherboard that will support the processor and the wattage the processor uses.

No, you can't. The i5 processors use a completely different design for what's done by the processor and what's done by the motherboard. So there's no way to change the processor.

I5 hasn't been out that long and it is a new socket type so it will not work with your computer.
