What can be done about a broken tooth with no money?

My boyfriend broke one of his molars last week. When I looked in his mouth, I could see a chunk of one missing down the the gum. At first, he was just worried about eating and it didn't hurt. After about four days he started complaining it was hurting but ibuprofen helped. Now it's been over a week and he says it hurts all the time and the ibuprofen stopped working. He's tried several brands of the over the counter numbing creams and none of those are helping. I can tell he's in a lot of pain.

Neither of us have health/dental insurance or any money to spare. Would going to the ER help anything; would they even be able to do anything? If he does nothing, what will happen? Could it be an infection? How back could that be? We even considered pulling it out ourselves (if it gets worse), then going to the ER straight away and having them sew it up. We're afraid that it's connected to his jaw and might damage too much if I just yank it out.

Anything would be helpful.

you have to go to the dentist. this isn't something you can treat with creams. i mean, i guess you could whip out the pliers and pull it out, but otherwise the dentist is the only option.

maybe look into your local dental school, they might do it for a cheaper cost, because they need people to practice dental on
