Stewart's Calculus book 6th edition.?

Is this book the same thing as his Early Transcendentals, I've skimmed through them and it seems to have the same table of contents and from what I've looked at appendix questions wise is also the same, so I was just curious if both are the exact same books. Was just trying to find out the differences (if there are any) before I get it.

They are not the same book. All of the material is there, but the order of coverage is quite different.

The regular version covers limits and differentiation only for polynomial, rational, and trig functions (and combinations of these) without any mention of logs, exponentials or inverse trig function. It covers applications of derivatives including related rates and optimization still without any mention of logs, exponentials or inverse trig. It then covers Riemann sums, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and integration by substitution and applications of integration (volumes, areas, work).

Then, after all of this, in the 7th chapter it finally introduces logs, exponentials and inverse trig functions. Stewart offers the instructor a choice of approaching the transendental functions in the order logs -> exponentials or the order exponentials -> logs.

Then in chapter 8 it returns to the general integration techniques.

The Early Transcendentals version includes exponentials, logs and inverse trig functions from the beginning along with polynomials, rational function, and trig functions. It covers differentiation for all of these functions. Then it covers integration, and so forth.

If you are teaching a Calc sequence, I would recommend the Early Transcendentals. If you are taking a class you have to buy the book required for the course. Buying some other book will just cause you problems.

I was wondering the same thing today...haha and you have the book I need...My brother is also taking calculus at a university and he is using the single variable calculus early transcendentals, so I thought that we could share it, but it turns out that I need the regular early transcendentals one. I am also now trying to find out what the difference is between them too...good luck!!
