respiratory problem questions?

Hi, I am planning to do the Sputum test in my house and i don't know what to do to produce a phlegm. I need to put the phlegm in the bottle from the lab so that they can test it. No phlegm is coming out and i need it ASAP

What are the foods or drinks to produce Phlegm. I am still coughing due to itchy throat

PS: This is for Sputum TB test for UMass Dartmouth admission.

Thank you so much

The best time is always as soon as you wake up in the morning. Even if you have perfectly normal lungs the cilia are still busy at work while you were sleeping, moving the blanket of mucous up toward your trachea. Most often you just, unconsciously, clear your throat and swallow it. It's usually a very small amount, but then they don't need much to culture it.

The trouble is remembering to spit it out into the specimen container.

If that doesn't work you might try a long hot shower with a lot of steam. Or drain a pot of pasta and breathe in the steam deeply.

Hot water, tea, coffee, whatever, first thing in the morning, can help too. The esophagus passes right behind the trachea and the warmth from the liquid helps to loosen any phlegm. Ask any smoker about that.

try smoking a cigarette. i smoked for like 7 years ( i quit a few months ago and love not smoking) butsmoking usually made me have to spit and some times gave me phlegm.
