Why does the ion HSO4 have a negative charge?

a hydrogen ion is +, Sulfur Ion is -2 and an Oxygen ion is -2 as well, so why does the ion have a - charge instead of a -3 charge? thanks in advance.

    Oh no... U r muddling up two separate concepts(Oxidation state and valency) ...

    HSO4 ⁻ is formed by removing a H⁺ from H2SO4.

    In HSO4 ⁻ , the oxidation state of S is 1+(-2)+x= -1

    x=4, Oxidation state of S is +4 not -2. By the way , the valency of S is 2.
