How do I rewrite a DVD RW?

I have something on there now that I want to replace with something else. I went to E-How and they said to go to File > Erase DVD, but I don't see that option. I went to explore and found the files on the DVD so can I just erase it manually? I tried to format it, but it said the disk is write protected. It's formatted as a DVD, a movie is on there, so is that why it wont let me format it?

Update:

On the DVD it says DVD+R and by the Maxell logo(the guy in the chair) it has "RW" next to it. So that means it's a DVD+RW right?

Make sure it is a DVRW and not DVDR, DVDR can not be rewriting,

try getting a burning program lie Nero or google for a free dvd burning Program, they will let you erase DVDs

go to my computer anbd selete the DVD and go erase dvd at the top,

if your pc does not let you do that get a program and check the dvd is clean with no scratches ETC,

please let me know if you need mreo help,

    thanks

You can only format -RW. I do it all the time on my DVD.
