what places should i visit in washington dc?

I am going to Washington D.C. for spring break with my family and they asked me to plan out a few places that I would like to see. I love history and want to go into law someday, so this is going to be a really exciting trip for me. I think we will only be there for about 5 days, but just point out some of the main sights that I should look at, so I can start planning the trip. Thanks!

Since you're interested in history and law, I'd suggest the following be part of your trip:

    --Tour of the Supreme Court

    --Tour of the US Capitol

--Visit to the Smithsonian American History Museum

--Visit to the National Archives (see the actual US Constitution and Declaration of Independence)

--Visit to Mount Vernon (a half-hour drive from DC)

--Visit to the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials

--Tour of the Library of Congress

--A tour of Lincoln Theater and the adjacent Petersen House--the house where Lincoln died

--Visit to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

--If you have time, and have a car available, an interesting place to visit is the Lincoln Cottage in upper Northeast DC, (on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home) which is where President Lincoln spent most of his summers, when he wanted to get away from the heat of the White House. There's a small but nicely done museum, plus you get a walking tour of the "Cottage" (which is actually a fairly large house).

visit the museums, they are open daily and no charge..definitely go to the Washington monument. Skip the white house tour...it's a waste of time. Go clubbing at LOVE on a Friday...it's the best club in DC. Go to the national Harbor and have dinner at a restaurant in the Gaylord Hotel. Uh, you may want to take a tour of the capital, that is really exciting. If you can go to Gallery Place China Town and walk along there and eat at one of the tapas restaurants. Oh! go to the library of congress,Have fun!

Don W's answer is pretty spot-on.

There are many beautiful, historic sights. Please make sure you go to Arlington National Cemetery (reachable by subway) and plan to spend at least two to three hours there. Also if you can manage it, go to the Pentagon (if it's still open to the public). For historical context, you should also go to the Holocaust Museum. Free but you have to make reservations.

A beautiful, amazing city. Get up early, stay out late. Five days is good, but you'll have to make the most of it. Remember, some places are open in the evening, so make FULL use of every day!

The Smithsonian museums, extremely the Air and area and the organic historic previous, are my favorites. The Washington Monument is exciting, as are the Capitol and White abode. Pre-9/eleven we've been given a VIP excursion with the aid of fact of a chum of a chum with connections, yet that's annoying to do to any extent further. in case you like chinese language nutrition, a quick Metro holiday to Chinatown will yield some innovations-blowing food, and the lunch costs are unbeatable for the typical of the eats. have exciting on your holiday!

If you have the time, you should go see the Mormon D.C. Temple, it just a few mins off the 495 belt. It's huge and made out of white marble and has stained glass windows. You should google some pictures of it.

    The address is

    9900 Stoney Brook Drive

    Kensington, MD
