Do brides-to-be typically try to grow out their hair before the wedding?? Why?

My boyfriend and I have been together for a few years, and are planning on getting engaged soon. My close friends all know this. I have also been growing my hair out for a while. Recently, at least three people have commented on my hair, and either jokingly or seriously asked if I was "growing it out for the wedding." But I'm not, and I didn't realize I was expected to. I just happen to want longer hair right now.

I don't understand the relation between hair length and weddings, actually... Do brides typically want long hair at their wedding? If so, why?? (Or is it just an old fashioned saying?)

with longer hair you have the option to wear it different ways or cut it off. but when its short your styles are more limited. i think the idea of "growing it out for the wedding" is just so you have more options. i think its also that long hair is associated with femininity as is being a bride. so its the idea that you want to look more typically feminine.

Well, I would say that having long hair for a wedding is traditionally beautiful. You don't want to look back on your wedding (when your a granny) and see a disgusting and way out of fashion hairstyle!

SO I guess most people grow their hair but sometimes people look better with short hair. Just do a simple pretty hairstyle (long or short) and you will look great!

Do a search for "wedding hair" on the internet - - the options are nearly always updo's or half updo's, which can't be accomplished with short hair.

It is very difficult to find photos of brides with short hair so I think it is a goofy mindset that people get into that you ought to grow your hair out for your wedding.

I thought about doing it, but I'm not. I prefer my hair short, and I will get married with it that way.

I tend to like very short, almost punk styles like the one on the left:

But I have let my hair grow out a little more so the salon has more to work with. I'm going for more of this look on the second picture down (blond hair with crystal headband):

So I guess even I have grown my hair out a bit for my own wedding!

I've been growing my hair out, but not for the wedding originally. The orignal reason was my fiance (then only boyfriend) wanted to see me with longer hair (he had never seen it longer than my shoulders) so I began to grow it out. Now I figure I might as well keep growing it out. That way when the time comes to cut and style my hair for my wedding I won't be limited to only a few styles.

  • I didn't.

I was an older bride at age 53 and wear my hair very short , straight, thick, and layered close to my head....my temples are gray & there's a shock of gray above one eye, and the rest of my hair is shot with silver. I enhance that with a special hair glaze that makes the silver sparkle just like my jewelry, the rest of my hair it gives a glossy sheen that looks natural...very chic for a woman my age. I have gotten countless compliments over the years when I wear my hair very short like this...many from hairdressers as well as aquaintances....my hair when long is beautiful, it's fine, silky and very thick BUT too much trouble to style and I am all thumbs when it comes to that sort of thing....besides there's a feeling of freedom with short hair....at least with me..it just feels GOOD.

I kept it the way I normally wear it for my wedding...it's 'Me'.

quite a lot of women do grow their hair out for thei wedding because having long flowing wavy hair is a very classic and timeless style, which will never age. i think your friends comment because you have discussed the possibility of getting engaged, theyre all expecting you to be on wedding mode!

i am getting married in 7months and i have very short hair (above shoulders), this wasnt out of choice, for the hairstyle i want for my wedding i had to have all layers evened out, meaning my hair had to be cut to the same length as the shortest layer, it will now grown evenly. i am now attempting to get as much length on my hair as possible before my big day, but i also have hair extensions on standby for that extra volume and length.

the look of long wavy romantic hair goes with every type of wedding dress, is very flattering to all face shapes and looks timeless, hence why so many women opt for this, some also dye their hair to a neutral colour (if they have wild hair) this is also for ageing reasons

long hair is a very classic look that has never gone out of style. wedding pictures last a lifetime and no one wants to look back on their wedding day with horror at their very dated hair-style.

  • You'll have a lot more options if you choose to do an updo.
