I accidentally ripped a $50 bill!?

I accidentally ripped a $50 bill clean in half (it was in an envelope and I thought I took everything out of it and began to tear up the envelope). What can I do??? Will the bank/stores accept taped bills? I have seen ones and fives that have been taped back together, but usually they use the anti-counterfeit markers on 50s so they're more picky about what they accept.

Legally, if more than 51% of the bill is still in tact then it can be accepted as legal currency. However, some stores may be wary of accepting this bill, so i would recommend that you take it to your bank and have them give you a whole fifty for your fifty-one % or more fifty.

I just ripped a 20 in half last week. I taped it back together and used it at a store with no problem. If a store gives you a problem, take it to the bank and they should accept it

Bring the part of the bill thats 51% or more to any bank. They should give you another one in replacement.

Ha-ha! I did it too, by accident! I took it to the bank & they stated as long as you have at least three corners of the bill they would exchange it. But that was in 2002 so go check with your bank.

easiest way to do it is take it to a bank and most will exchange it. it is still legal tender and if you have to, you can send it to the U.S. Mint and they will examine the money to make sure it is legitimate, and replace it. I have searched online for a while, but cannot find the proper link for the latter option. However, if the bank doesn't exchange it for you, they can probably tell you how to do it.

Just tape it on the back. That's the acceptable way to do it.
