Is the Death of Self Good?

it would happen in your own head, but: realizing Self isn't defined through living. Is the vanishing of "myself" good, if it is replaced with the 'one', whom we all are?

-or- Is it a tragedy that the person whom I've learnt to love is gone?

All forms of life previous to humans have no sense of self, we are the first to be able to self-reflect, to say this is my hand, this is me, i feel happy, i choose not to do that because of this belief. what if this step in evolution [recognizing your ego (i) ] is important because we can then realize that that is not all of who we are. our consciousness is something much vaster and older that our temporary physical form and the things our brains think about with the input of our senses. i can identify "myself" yet who controls me?

this is a good question, if you could reply specifically to me that would be awesome, we could maybe have a discussion about it.

    I was dead twice.

    It was quite nice.

While I was gone others were still here and were rather unhappy.

    So it's all about perception.

    Good is subjective.

Ultimately there is no good or bad. There is just what is. All states of being have a balance of more than one pole. Death is just one pole of existence as is birth. The stuff which happens between them either after birth or after death are just part of the balance.

The death of self is good, if and only if there is a resurrection of a better self.

For example...it is a tree as a whole that gives a fruit its life...if the fruit is uprooted from its source (the tree) it is dead, someone eats it, and is given life--vitality. From death has arisen life. One may die to their old self, and live for a new self...preferably better.

    No, and it's not possible.

Individuality/ego is intrinsic. Even if you manage what you suggest (replacing yourself with one we all are), it's still your judgment, with all its merits and flaws, guided by your understanding of the situation, that decides the parameters of 'self' and 'we all.' Errors are guaranteed.

The best we can do is humility, respecting our influence on others, and try to accomplish something worthwhile.

Linear existence is temporary, full of temporary conditions. Everyone has to deal with loss and gain. We're not supposed to erase ourselves, but to improve ourselves.
