32 F is 491.67 R (which is based on the absolute zero). Half this is 245.835 R or -213.835 F.

In the context of "twice as cold" implying "half as hot", this is the only answer that makes scientific sense.

The answer depends on whether "twice as cold" is intended to be a scientifically accurate statement. If so, "twice as cold" would be "halfway between this temperature and absolte zero". Absolute zero is -459.67 degrees Fahrenheit, so the average is -213.84 degrees Fahrenheit.

Of course, that answer would be absurd if you were on planet Earth (the lowest recorded temperature on Earth is -128.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Usually whenever anyone says it's "twice as cold outside" it isn't intended to be a scientifically accurate statement. All they're really saying is that is the temperature is "x" degrees inside, it's "x/2" degrees outside (or, if the temperature is below zero degrees, that it's "2x" degrees outside). In this case, the outside temperature would be 16 degrees Fahrenheit. No, this isn't very precise, but then again, language often isn't.

well, mathematically you'd divide 32 by 2 and get 16 degrees.

'Twice as cold' lacks a specific meaning.
