Don't you think it's just a tad insipid that restaurant staff refer to their customer as "quests?"?

I think then I will be inspired to start charging my quests when I have a dinner party. I believe a company who refers to the rank and file as "associates," sales or otherwise, needs to pony up and share a reasonable share of the profits befitting that" Title."

quests... that's good. Like each customer is a mission waiting to be solved. Most of the places I go call them guests.

I don't mind being called a guest in a restaurant or a hotel, but I hate it in a store. Go figure! I suppose it has to do with the differences between the hospitality industry, the function of which is to provide me with some of the comforts of home, and the retail industry, where the relationship is solely transactional.

What would you rather be called? If you are called a customer it would make me feel like just a number, I think that the word guest is appropriate and I was a waitress for many years and as far as I know noone got offended but I didn't call them hello guest I used sir, mam, or knowing their name is always a plus.

i will ignore the rest of your beliefs.....and just answer the question

guests ? or did you mean ' quests ' ......i think not !

restaurants / hotels / clubs/ any entertaiment/service industry is gonna have to call them something ?

what would you choose?........bookers?......clients ?.......punters ?

guests - always has been used

it doesnt seem to cause anyone but you offence

    so why not ?
