Why is ok to hang Sarah Palin in effigy but not Obama?

I've had the photo of the Sarah Palin halloween decoration where she is being hung from a rooftop sent to me by several Obama supporters who think it is hilarious. Would they still think it was funny if it were Obama hanging from a noose instead?

It's not a hate crime. It's a statement from a very liberal couple against conservative politics in the context of halloween.

It's not a hate crime for two very simple reasons. One, it's a WHITE couple that portrayed WHITE persons in their display. And it's not a hate crime against women because McCain is also there, in the chimney with fake fire engulfing him.

Yes if it was Obama in the noose it would be forced to be taken down. Double standard? I don't think so, considering the residents are white and obama is black. Yeah that stings of hate crime symbology, as would the case be if these residents in West Hollywood were Black and hanging Palin from a noose.

Consider the context people. It's not a big deal.

It's not okay to hang either, and while I think the guy who hung the Sarah Palin effigy should take it down out of respect for the neighbors who have complained more than anything else, I do think the effigy is an ironic statement about the kind of feelings that Palin has been largely responsible for stirring up at recent rallies, particularly sentiments against black people and gays. I won't hold back the fact that she frightens me because she preaches politics that are laced with hatred of certain groups. Therefore, the image of a hung Palin might be interpreted as a critique of her dangerous politics. That being said, it walks a very close line to being a display that similarly incites violence, and thus I can't condone it.

All you have to do to realize these dark truths about her is to read the news. It's a lot harder to fabricate truths in national media than it is to try and spin them. Frankly, I'm surprised there hasn't been more uproar over her referral to Obama as "Sambo" before her selection as McCain's VP.

Some of these people don't know what they are talking about. These are not college kids. They are two 28 year old store window designers. They are disgusting humans who have taken their freedom of speech too far. Does this set the stage for someone who is against gays, like they are, to hang and image of 2 men from a noose? This is so upsetting and gives me another reason to vote Mccain. If these are some of the people that support liberal ideas then I want nothing to do with it. This woman is a mom! Her kids will see this. Something is going wrong with politics this year. Hate, hate and more hate from both sides, but this crosses the line. On a side note I support gays and know that it is not something that a person chooses to be. I am just pointing out how hate works.

What's funny is, both of those are just excercising freedom of speech. Neither of them is a hate crime. motivated by racism/sexism or not, it is their right to make a statement. Hanging something from a house is not a crime either. So hanging an effigy of someone is just an act of hate, not necessarily a hate CRIME. The reason the other students were arrested was because they hung it from the campus tree, so it is technically vandalism.

It's not ok, it's disgusting, and this needs to be treated seriously. And I'm an Obama supporter. This has no place in politics, in society, or in the United States. It's disturbing that people would send this around, and I don't care who's being hung, or who sent it out. This needs to stop. This is not appropriate behavior by any means!

EDIT: And it's certainly NOT funny!

This was done by punk, moron college students. It's a clear example of sophomoric, immature humor glazed over with 'their rights'. Some people never grown in stature or intellect. It's an example of how creativity declines when raised playing video games. The creativity ended at the idea and these idiots couldn't think beyond it. They couldn't create a better fitting icon to express the observation of what 'they' claim was to celebrate Halloween. I suppose everyone has a right to point out their own moronic tendencies.

Apparently, it has no race content or context. Neither would it be is she were set aflame on a burning cross.

? It would not be such an issue, if she were shown impaled upon a pike. How is is NOT racial. How can it NOT be a hate crime? It clearly is.

Where is the Secret Service and why aren't they visiting these people? You do realize they're all in for a mess of legal trouble, right?

Double standards are for the weak

Which explains why democrats love to use them

" what if the moron was a republican"

    It happened in west hollywood

No chance it was a republican
