Dreamweaver: images show up in browser as ?

The latest website I made in Dreamweaver, the preview only works specifically in Firefox 3 on the computer I used to create the site. It will not work on any other browser on that computer (it is my computer at work). And it won't work on on any browser on any other computer.

I created all of the files on the desktop in the same folder and have not moved any files or changed any files. Like all websites I make I started with a plan so that none of the files would need to be rearranged later. I have received no warning messages or anything since creating this site. And the only part of the site that doesn't work are the images.

Any help on getting the files to work in other browsers?

Update:

we havent uploaded it yet, we're still just previewing in browser.

I do have another Q though:

Does every file require a long description ie: http://www.mysite.com/image1

or is alternate text sufficient.

usually i only use alternate text. is it possible my images don't show up because there is no long description?

Is it possible that the images reside somewhere other than where the site is hosted?

Sometimes this happens because the images are on the computer at work and were not uploaded to the server.
