Did anyone have a parent die of a drug overdose?

I did many years ago and there isn't a lot of info/support out there. Mostly it's parents who have children overdose or adults losing siblings. Parents are supposed to be the role model, supposed to be there for there children, not abandon them to drugs. Sometimes I wonder if my parent overdosed deliberately as a suicide but I think it was just an accident. Growing up in a drug enviornment wasn't easy and nobody I know had to deal with it. I don't touch drugs for this reason.

Also I wonder, is it easier to tell people that a parent died from suicide or a drug overdose? Obviously both have their stigma.

No, but my brother died of drug overdose. He died at the age of 28 in 1983. They cant help themselves. They are addicted to the drugs and the more times they shoot up the more risk of an overdose because you never know the strength of the drugs, the purity and the additives. They only people that can help people like that are THEMSELVES. Im so sorry for your lose. Drug addiction is a disease. They fall into the habit of shooting up and then they are in too deep. My brother must have gone into a hundred rehabs all to no avail. Sure, he would be clean for a while but then he would go right back to it. They dont kill themselves intentionally but it is tantamount to the same.

My brother is out of his pain now and I try to look on the bright side of his life. Dig deep within yourself and try to remember the good things. With that your parent can live within you. Im sure your parent is watching over you at this very moment.

Once again, sorry for your loss. I wish you the very best.
