Crockpot - how long can it sit?

I'm making split pea soup in my crockpot. (Split peas, a bunch of veggies, water, and a ham hock.) I started it about 8 hours ago and I'd hoped it would be done by now, but I'm thinking I might have underestimated. Can I leave it on for a couple more hours and then have it switch to "warm" until I wake up in the morning? It will have been about 16-17 hours total. I don't know if bacteria can start to form, etc.

Thanks!

its fine to leave it in for about 15 hrs max, though you should be fine if it is warm. the warm vapors and the enclosed area will keep bacteria from forming, etc. just dont leave it in for mare than 17 hrs. hope i helped!
