Depression and Pain: Anyone have success with Cymbalta?

I was originally Diagnosed with Clinical Depression in my childhood... As an adult I have generally managed well with periods of "situational" depression.

I was medicated with Prozac in the 1990's and took it with great success for a period of 5 or so years.

In 2003 my husband and I adopted special needs siblings from Foster Care and our daughter has had significant issues that have led to both depression as well as a back injury that required surgery, which was not effective and I still have pain.

I tried Prozac again last year and noticed no improvement over a 6 month period on the max dose. I have been assuming that "situational" stress of parenting a SN child is the majority of my depression.

Last month I couldn't stop crying for several weeks so started Celexia which has made me sick...Today our doctor (who also treats my SN Daughter) switched me to Cymbalta in hope that we can address Pain and Depression.

Has anyone taken Cymbalta? If so what do you think?

I have taken Cymbalta for over a year now. My doctor gave it to me when I was struggling with my mom's cancer, my husband's new job as a police officer, and also trying to care for a special needs toddler. So I know exactly where you are coming from. I was embarrassed to take medication for something I thought was just "what a Mom has to do", but my doctor felt that I should just try it.

I didn't notice a difference at first, but my husband did. He mentioned how I was not so quick to "snap". It seems to have been working well for me. The only thing that I've had a problem with is dizziness if I forget to take a dose.

    Good luck.

I surely hope you feel better soon. I am taking Cymbalta, 90mg a day. I know the usual dose is 60mg, but my doctor personally decided 90 would work better for me. I am very happy with it. I take two in the morning and one in the evening.

I haven't had any side effects and it didn't take but about a week for it to begin working. I've taken all the medications you listed, and Cymbalta is a good medicine, I think. Good luck, my friend.
