Taxes in Greece?

I am trying to get some info together, and do some calculations, ready for a move to.

Possibly late this year or early next, Greece (Rhodes) if anyone knows, can you please tell me what the basic rate of income tax in Greece is. The present rate of v.a.t… also is their any equivalent of our council tax, paid to the local authorities.

How good and reliable is their internet connections, as my living would rely on it. How much would a good BB connection cost, water rates if any, and the cost of electric.

Many thanks. Any info would be greatly appreciated; it may be something I have not given thought to.

    Hi

Basic wage is VERY low - expect to get 600 - 1000 euro a month after deductions. Wages change with your status - marriage/children etc.

VAT is 19% at the moment.

    No council tax

Some good internet connections - many different packages like in UK - personally I have OTE (like BT) as although they work out more expensive ... I have never had any problems with them.

Water rates are low minimum 3 month payment is 25 euro and then goes up depending on your usage.

Electric is bearable - depending on the hours you use it, different rates for different times of day ranging from 0.074c to 0.116c a unit plus payment from the national TV channels.

Petrol for heat in the winter can be expensive. Clothes and electrical items are over priced, and probably hard to find decent shops on Rhodes as it's seasonal. (Thank you eBay for my clothes!!!)

May I ask why you chose Rhodes - I moved to Greece 20yrs ago (I live in Ipirus) - I couldn't imagine placing myself on an island which is dead in winter and you are so far away from decent hospitals in Athens (these become important as you age). Just curious. If you need further info feel free to email me.

Our internet connections are very good and reliable. Water is cheap, electricity is expensive.

Well, Rhodes is an expensive island.

Anyway, just to feel the air, the sun, the sea, entertainment, a different way of life, it's worth it.

P.S.We know how to have a good time but we are very hard-working people, too. (among the first in Europe....times they are a changing...)
