May 15th?? Has anyone heard about this??

I live in Charlotte, NC and everyone here is saying that no one is supposed to get gas on May the 15th because we're supposed to boycott the gas prices, because we did it back in the 70s and it dropped 30 cents over night. Has anyone heard about this?

The whole idea of affecting gas prices by having a "gas out" on May 15th is a hoax. Only consuming less gas, such as by driving less will reduce gas consumption.

The email forward detailing the idea has been shown to be completely wrong by a microeconomics professor from Indiana University.

Your tactic will not matter, and it shows the corporate interests just how dumb the activists really are if this is their idea what to do about gas prices. The best way would be to steal gas from the SUV owners and corporate vehicles so they all run out in heavy traffic and cause massive grid lock in every major city in the US! That and have the worlds longest convoy of trucks coming into every city and then refuse to leave until midnight!

It's a wonderful idea, but the email probab;y originated from a gas company. Since the days before and after the gas use will sore, so can the prices. Stop and think long term. We are stuck with the gas prices

This is a recurring e-mail that seems to go out every 6 months or so. It's a grass-roots attempt to "threaten" the gas companies. It's never worked as far as I can tell. I love the idea, but it's not feasible. We're gas dependent in the US, and we're not allowed to drill in the oil rich areas so OPEC gets to put it to us when they want. We need alternate fuel, but then, we'll buy it from over-seas. There's allot of money in these deals, and our politicians know it.

Yes, I first heard about it over a week ago, I live in Miami. I certainly won't be buying gas on May 15th...spread the word.

Haven't heard of it, and it's a stupid idea. Everyone will either buy gas the day before, or the day after. When they have increased sales on the day before, or after, the lack of sales from that day, doesn't make much of a difference. If you wanna make a difference buy a hybrid car and reduce your gas consumption. It's better for the environment and better for your wallet.

Quite honestly, these days it seems prices can go up and down 30 cents on their own whether or not people boycott.

Yeah, I've heard those things before - it doesn't work. Cuz they just jack up the price and you have to pay more because you're out of gas and you have no other choice.

sounds like a marketing ploy to raise gas prices again

I have heard of it, but just doing it one day won't have much afftect on things. We are too dependent on foreign oil.
