Can you imagine how good the USA mens soccer team would be if soccer was the number one sport in the U.S.?

I know the main reason why the U.S. is not as good as it seems they should be is because its not the number one sport in the U.S. I think they would at least have a World Cup

Why are soccer/football crowds violent ?

Especially with hooliganism and riots between different clubs. Just watching football hooligan fights in the UK on YouTube and just crazy to think before covid people would fight each other over football?? What are they fighting over exactly? In my opinion soccer is painfully boring to watch but i respect it’s the world game but is there’s no reason to fight each other ffs. That’s one of the reasons I never go to football games is due to stupid crowd behaviour.

Will the USA eventually have a competitive international male soccer team any time soon?

    Favourite answer:

I am more optimistic about them now than any time in the past even when they made decent runs at the WC.  Their bench is deepest it's ever been.  Players which 10 years ago would have been starters are lucky to make camp today.  I think they will be strong this qualifying round and for Qatar in '22.  They will be even stronger in 2026 and not someone teams will want to face.

How come in soccer someone is 10 from the goal and they kick it over the cross bar?

    Favourite answer:

Yeah I know.  Seems impossible but it happens.  I’ve seen it happen much closer than that. And you think ‘how is that possible you utter ****, my granny could stick it in from there’ . But that’s why we watch football.

Am i the only one who actually finds female soccer more enjoyable to watch?

    Favourite answer:

I've heard others make the same comment and I think it's mostly "purists" that enjoy the overall mechanics of a game.

Save for a few outliers that come along every generation or so (Serena Williams in Tennis, for example), women's sport in general is rarely dominated by sheer athleticism and physicality.  Because of this, greater focus on fundamentals, strategy and team play is stressed.

I know basketball purists, for example, that enjoy watching women's college basketball for the same reason:  the game tends to be slower and more calculating, with teammates working together to exploit openings instead of handing the ball to their big star and waiting for something amazing to happen.

I'm guessing you may be a former coach or player, or someone that was taught the fundamentals of the game at an early age.  In my experience, these are the ones most-often drawn to women's team sports, where the fundamentals and actual "team" concept still actually mean something.

Why do Americans think soccer is feminine?

    Favourite answer:

It’s typically played by girls and young kids  in America. Boys play American football and baseball. At least this is traditionally the case, football has become more popular in the States. It could one day be a Big 4 sport, although it’ll never overtake the NFL.

What exactly should a winger do in soccer? ?

I am a forward but some people would call me a winger because i'm not center forward, i'm either on the left or right. (4-3-3) When I play at soccer tryouts, I've been told by different coaches that:

    1. As a winger, I need to "hug" the side line to pass the ball up the field to center forwards and stay wide. (when I try to score, they tell me to go back wide

    2. As a winger, I'm just a regular forward and can act as such including interchanging positions with the center forward if needed.

    3. As a winger, I'm basically an extension to the midfield so I should go back and help with defending and stay BEHIND the forwards.

I've had several professional coaches tell me ALL three of these things for the same position and it's very confusing because they are all different and if I don't meet the specific coache's definition of a winger/right forward, I am considered a bad player. So which one is correct? When I played a right winger with my club, everything was so smooth. The center forward would pass me a diagonal pass up the field towards the sidelines, I'd run straight to get it and then cut in and dribble towards goal, he'd overlap me and either I scored, I passed it off to him or I passed it to the left forward who was waiting for me. This never seems to work when I am at tryouts. I suck because I'm too busy trying to figure out do I stay wide, do I run back with the midfielders when the ball gets overturned or do I stay up top and try to score w/ the other forward

why is the U.S. Women's National Team so white? [Soccer]?

For the past three decades, a total of four POC have been on the national team. It's a little suspect if you ask me. There are plenty of dynamite POC soccer players in America, I just find it odd that for thirty years you could only find 22 white women in the entire country who could play professional soccer. Even the USMNT is a little bit more diverse so what's not clicking with the women?
