How come NYC became a financial capital of the world if it had such a bad rep of having a very high crime rate?
Nobody want to do business in a crime ridden city.

As a person from Chicago, I’m interested in taking a trip to New York City in about the next year or so, what can I expect in New York City?
I know that New York City is expensive even more expensive than Chicago so I’m giving myself at least a year in advance to put aside money for the trip. Would it be necessary to go to every burough in the city? How many days should I book the trip being in a city like that with so much to see and do? I already have a savings account just in general with several thousand dollars but the funds I use for the trip isn’t coming out of savings, I’ll take it out of my income so I’m planning out financially. Is New York City similar to Chicago?

Should I move into a studio apartment in Brooklyn, NY for $2000 a month?
**Before I begin, please don't say "In Texas, you'll get an apartment for cheaper!" or "In Iowa, my whole house cost that much!" I don't care, because I'm not moving to Texas or Iowa.**
Last weekend, I toured a 500 sq ft studio apartment in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The monthly rent was listed at $2100, however after negotiations, I was able to lower it to $2000. All utilities except electricity are included. The kitchen had old appliances and counter tops, and no dishwasher, but other than that the place was really nice! It's in an elevator, 24-hour doorman building, and in the middle of everything (supermarket 5 minute walk away, gym 3 minute walk away, etc). Plus it's on a nice, quiet block.I'm in no rush to move in anywhere so I can reject it, BUT I have been apartment hunting for quite some time now and I'm getting frustrated, which may be the reason why I'm starting to give in. My bf, mom, and sister say that I should take it. Only thing is - I make $80,000 a year. To live in NYC, I would have to pay an additional 3% in taxes, which knocks off $333 from my monthly income. I also have student loans (though I'm thinking about refinancing the private one). What do you guys say?

How come New York city dosent have alot of theme parks?
Favourite answer:There's not really space (or affordable space) in NYC for a theme park. There is also not demand for a theme park in that area. There are theme parks within an easy drive, and there are plenty of other great things to see and do in NYC.

When traveling out of NYC, do you have to get a covid test BEFORE coming back, or can you get tested when you get back?
I may have to leave New York for a few days. I haven't left since everything started. I want to know do I have to be tested before getting on a plane to come back to New York, or can I test when I get back home? Do they ask you for a negative covid test before getting on the plane?

Colleague rides the Acela Express train on weekends, just to travel: weird?
I have a co-worker who lives in Manhattan. He says that he hadn't left his neighborhood for one year, due to the pandemic. He used to travel a lot but he is afraid of getting coronavirus on the subway or at an airport.
So now he just books first-class tickets on the weekend on Amtrak's Acela Express for short trips to neighboring states (which won't require a quarantine when returning). On a Saturday afternoon, he'll walk down to Penn Station, ride the Acela Express for an hour to Philadelphia, spend 30 minutes in the train station's first-class lounge, and ride back to Manhattan. He says it's very nice, with free drinks, free food, hot towels, etc.
Is this crazy or cool?

Which would you prefer - live in a cool neighborhood, but cramped apartment VS living away from the action, but in a spacious apartment?
This is the decision I'm trying to make. I'm currently looking at apartments in NYC since they're a ton of deals right now. I can get an apartment in places like West Village or Park Slope, but then the apartments are either cramped or old school-like. OR I can go to places like Windsor Terrace or Kensington and get a really spacious apartment in a safe neighborhood, but I'll have to take the subway to go anywhere.
Which would you prefer?

Moving to Florida from NYC once I graduate.. (bachelors degree in busniess/marketing), smart move or no?
Favourite answer:Well, sure, Florida is cheaper to live in. A cost of living website I just looked at says that to maintain the same standard of living you need twice as much income in New York as you do in Florida. The thing is, places with lower cost of living usually have lower salaries so it all kind of evens out. , So until you know how much you can make in each place, the relative cost of living doesn't mean much. You may pay more or less in one place for something than you do in another. For example, do you need a car in New York? You will in Florida, in most places. If you don't currently own and operate a car at least 5 days week, transportation may cost you a good deal more in Florida than it does in New York but your rent will be cheaper.

honestly, why do people think living in new york is expensive when most people don't own cars ?
owning a car is one thing that contributes to your bills, if you take that out, your expenses drop dramatically
