Are the Portland riots calming down?

    Favourite answer:

Nope. They've set up barriers to keep out police. But I hear the housing market is a buyer's market there.

Why is Portland considered a strange city?

    Favourite answer:

Portland has developed, and then cultivated, a decidedly quirky vibe. With businesses like Voodoo Donut, Powells City of Books, the world's smallest park (Mills End Park, look it up), the unicycle guy with the darth vader helmet playing bagpipes, etc, etc its a town that leans heavily into the leftist counter culture thing

How does portland afford so many strip clubs?

I know there's a lot of wealthy areas there and a lot of big companies like Nike and Intel do they have the most amount of rich people per capita of any major city? For those of you who don't know what per capita means it means within its population, yeah New York has a lot more total rich people than Portland because it's a lot bigger, but within its population? Unlike New York or Chicago Portland doesn't seem to have miles and miles of public housing with tons of murders and crime.

How do you figure out where to move (when moving states)?

    Favourite answer:

We did a spreadsheet where we listed the factors that were important to one or both of us and gave them a weight. Being able to find work and the price of housing were more important than, say, being a day's drive from the ocean or whether there are professional sports teams.

Each of you make a list of what traits and features are important about any place you might relocate to, without discussing what you put on it. Then compare lists and discuss how important each one is. Start a spreadsheet, your traits the rows. Now start working on potential cities/towns, one per column.

There are books and websites that gather statistics and rate places for quality of life. I don't always agree with their methods or what they weight, but it's a starting point.

When people mention Portland in the media are they talking about Oregon or Maine?

    Favourite answer:

Right now it's Oregon where the protests are going on.  Oregon's Portland is bigger and more famous than Maine's Portland.

What do the protester in Portland want?

    Favourite answer:

Nine unarmed black men were killed by police last year  (and 19 unarmed white men).  Why did they not protest last year?  Because it was not an election year.  Those crazy Democrats will do anything to beat Trump because he is a threat to their globalist agenda.  Most of the protesters do not know what they want.

Which mayor is worse: the Seattle one or the Portland one?

    Favourite answer:

Portland.  I'm biased because I am near Portland.  The city has had a series of ineffectual, soft minded, liberal mayors that have explicitly refused to support their law enforcement officers.  That includes Ted Wheeler.  Instead they have openly supported the radical hippies and radical homosexuals that are pervasive within the city.

Is Portland worth a visit from Seattle?

I’m planning on going to Seattle/Vancouver (Canada) in late July for 2 weeks given COVID19 settles down. I was wondering is Portland worth a days visit. I really enjoy nature but not sure if Portland is worth it or should I dedicate that extra day towards Seattle or Vancouver.
