Is it hard to get a job in Miami FL?

    Favourite answer:

Do you speak Spanish?  Majority of jobs are in the service industry and will probably require you to be bilingual.

Right now, the curfew has been extended to April 12. It's possible that it could be extended again, but Spring Break will be over by then.

Does Miami look like it’s in a foreign country ?

    Favourite answer:

The first thing you need to understand is that people who have never been to Miami before tend to confuse Miami with Miami Beach. The two are very close to one another geographically, but in terms of the aesthetics and the demographics, they're completely different. Yes, there are a few places in Miami that are fancy, lots of steel and glass and opulent homes and stuff like that, but for the most part, Miami is just like any other sizable city - it's got its own neighborhoods and the same problems all other cities have with traffic and crime and pollution and all that jazz. Miami Beach is much smaller, the populace is much wealthier, much whiter, much more Jewish, and a lot older. Miami is a bit different from many other sizable US cities because where places like Atlanta and Philadelphia may be MOSTLY black, but there are still plenty of whites and Hispanics/Latinos, and Asians, etc., Miami is almost exclusively Latino and predominantly Cuban. There are dozens of cities all over the US that are Latino but predominantly Mexican, but the fact that Miami is so heavily Cuban sets it apart. It's true that there are plenty of parts of the city where all you hear is Spanish, all the signs are in Spanish, all of the businesses cater to Spanish speaking customers and all of the food is Cuban food, but that's not the whole city by any means. There are plenty of Americans living there. There are black ghettos and middle class white neighborhoods and a normal, stereotypical downtown. It's not a foreign country by any means.

Do any southerners ever go to Miami for winter vacations ?

    Favourite answer:

You are correct, it's warmer in Miami than Atlanta/TN/NC in the winter.

Typical Dec/Jan day in S. Florida sees a daytime high in the 70s.  Occasionally it will be in the 80s or the 60s.  There is a reason people flock to Florida in the winter.

I was wondering if you could take a boat 12 miles offshore of Miami and just build a wall that holds back rising seas and saves Miami?

Is it true people in Florida ride on alligators through orange groves to get to the beach everyday?

    Favourite answer:

Gators are fresh water.  You need crocks to ride to the beach on. Something America lacks. Gators are best to go out on lakes on & fish from, or for gator bridges to cross the canals on. Gators don't like salt & sand.  Last I was in the Florida orange groves we found it best to go to the ditch's in them & rope a wild bore. Saddle it & ride around for the day. Much better riding than a gator is. On land. Gators are lazy on land. Just want to lay around in the sun for most. On land we often had to rope them & drag them back to the water to launch them to fish from. Lots of work to do.
