  What's more worth it for a trip: Chicago or NYC?

  You don't have to read this part but it helps with my decision making: so I am graduating high school soon, and I don't have a lot of family and friends for a graduation party. So my dad gave me the decision of picking mostly any place in the US to visit for celebration. I am torn between going to Chicago or New York City. If we go to Chicago, it is closer so we would train there or drive there which means less cost and more exploration and buying things. If we go to New York there are more options there but we would not be able to do quite as much, as we would be flying there and more cost. Or if you have any other ideas for other cities to visit, let me know!

  No borders within the US are closed.  Some states have rules about going into personal quarantine depending upon your travels.  Further, some localities have requests that people minimize their non-essential travel to limit the spread of the COVID virus.

  What fun things can I do in Chicago in January especially during a pandemic?

  I decided I wanted to celebrate my 29th birthday in the Windy City and I want to know what cool fun things I can get into besides the typical stuff like go visit the “Bean”.  Is there any hip hop bars downtown?  What’s open and not open?  Are they practicing social distancing?  I just want to have a great time that’s all I asked for.   Oh and I booked at the Freehand hotel 🏨

  I lived in Elgin. It is a good hours drive from Chicago with some traffic. It has never been considered a suburb of Chicago. It way too far away. 

  It is considered a city. The 8th largest city in IL.

  does each terminal in ohare airport have a security checkpoint when going thru each time?

  I am just wondering, at ohare airport T3 is AA and T2 is united, if i want to get on a train and go from T3 to T2 is there always a security checkpoint you have to go thru in order to get to the gate areas? chicago will just be a layover for me when i start my journey out of iowa

  How safe is it to live in uptown in Chicago? ?

  There are gang activities all over the city, not just on the South & West Sides.

  Uptown is, generally, safer than most of the neighborhoods in $hitcago, but always be on the lookout. 

  Based on 2017 CPD Gang Database (and according to my best friend, who was a Tactical Officer for CPD at the 19th District on Addison & Fremont), there are 4 major gangs in the Uptown area:

   - Conservative Vice Lords & 4 Corner Hustlers are around Clarendon & Wilson and Clarendon & Montrose.

  - Black P. Stones are west of Broadway.

  - Gangster Disciples are around Sheridan & Lawrence to Sheridan & Wilson; additionally, they are also around south of Broadway & Wilson.

  And in the summer, be careful when you are going to Montrose Beach/Harbor, because gangbangers from other areas may be hanging out around there and they may get into a shoot out with the rival gangs like what happened in the summer of 2017. 

  Btw, in 2018, ACLU filed a federal lawsuit against the city & CPD that sought to have the gang database deemed unconstitutional. The lawsuit is still pending.

  basic pc repairs you can get with industry certifications.  such as CompTIA.  some community colleges may offer classes and testing for such certifications.  how long you need to study is up to you.

  bachelor degrees typically take four years.  some fields you can get decent jobs with just an associates degree from a community college which takes two years on avg.

  you could join the military too. they have plenty of jobs in the IT field.  you need to qualify for it via the ASVAB (high school level), and the job has to be in demand.  but there you get paid training and experience for four years, standard length for most contracts.  a recruiter will have more info on job choosing and testing.

  Why do people think chicago is a liberal city just because we always vote Democrat ?

  We are actually the most conservative city anyone could possibly imagine! Portland Oregon has a population six hundred thousand and has over fifty strip clubs within its city limits, Chicago has a population of two point nine million and has only four strip clubs within are city limits. We have very conservative rules and regulations about where a strip club can be built and we have the most religious colleges anyone could possibly imagine like the Moody bible institute.

  Illinois is a northern, Midwestern state.  There is no way that the northern 1/3 of Illinois could be considered part of the South.

  That said, the twang you reference is only heard among the less-educated rural and small town people living south of about Kankakee - and that twang is disappearing.  Southern attitudes (racism, fundamentalist religious beliefs, resistance to education, etc.) are somewhat more prevalent (but not dominant) in southern Illinois - probably south of about Centralia.

  Why do people comment on your expensive clothing when you're panhandling ?
