do they still have "Whites Only " sections in South Africa? how do they get away with it in today's "p.c. world"?

    Favourite answer:

South Africa is much, much, much worse. In South Africa, it's legal to take a white farmers land, even if they bought the land from a black African AFTER apartheid. White business owners have to split half their earnings with a black person, even if that person doesn't work there. They just have to give half of everything they make to someone who is black because it's the law.

This is what they call justice in South Africa.

why did south africa have apartheid?

    Favourite answer:

For the same reason the southern US had "Jim Crow" laws. And although you may not like to hear this, Canada has some pretty racist laws, to into the 1960s. Non-white MEN were generally not invited to Canada. Did you not learn this at school?

What's your perception on South Africa?

I'm a South African and I always get questions like "why are you white" and "do you live in a hut". What picture in your mind do you have when you think "South Africa"

Is South Africa a white country?

    Favourite answer:

What is a "white country"? The majority of people in South Africa are black but whites are over represented in the upper and middle-socioeconomic classes. There is a considerable/dangerous level of inter-racial stress today.

I know about the apartheid, Nelson Mandela, I think Dutch were to first Europeans there, followed by English. It's the southernmost country in Africa.

Why is South Africa so white?

    Favourite answer:

It's not. The vast majority of South Africans are non-white.

Centuries ago, Dutch and then French and German colonists settled in South Africa. They became the dominant group, called Afrikaners, and their numbers were swelled by British settlers, but they were ALWAYS in the minority. By far the majority of South Africans are black or mixed-race.

That was the reason for Apartheid -- to try to control the non-whites and keep them down or away from white areas.

You really need to study the history.

So someone on here says whites are persecuted in South Africa?

    Favourite answer:

As a visitor you wouldn't experience the issues some of the native whites have. Also being there only 3 weeks makes your exposure to any possible crime more limited. You really have to read the history. It mostly comes from the government taking over privately owned farms because they say the whites used their historical privilege to obtain it. While certainly there's a history there it doesn't feel very good for farmers who are just trying to make a living getting their lively-hood taken away after their family owned the land for the last century. There's also still a lot of poverty there which creates crime that targets people with money which also creates some of that sentiment.
