Is it legal to work in Australia without signing a tax file declaration first?
On my trial day of my new job, I was given an application form (which asked for my general details as well as my tax file number), but not tax file declaration. When I asked the manager if I need to sign a tax file declaration form, he said that it wasn't necessary because their restaurant has an accountant who does that on behalf of all new workers. It seemed a little suspicious to me, but I just nodded along anyway because it's my first job and I don't know very much on the matter. My family told me that you always have to (physically!) sign a tax file declaration form when you start a new job...
