  • When will I know about my child's gifted testing?

My son was recommended to be tested for giftedness. He has had two tests, which the counselor I spoke with told me was all he would need for now. His last one was last week. I was wondering when I will find out the outcome if anyone knows? Also, the teacher that recommend for him to be tested said he could possibly skip an entire grade. This would put both of my sons in the same grade. Some people seem to think this could be a horrible idea... Any thoughts?

  • my professor gave me an F on my paper, I'm really upset ...?

I feel awful and crying about getting an F on my paper. I don't know how to respond to my professor she is giving me the chance to fix the paper and turn it in by Wednesday. The problem that I'm having is that I'm going through health issues right now and I had treatment last month and the anesthesia from the treatment and the medications have really messed with my ability to think and process. I have disability accommodations that the professor knows about. I already took a year off of school and that's all the time i can take off or else id have to drop out of the program. Im having a flare up of my pain and i need to type to revise the paper and i feel like i just can't PHYSICALLY redo the paper. I'm already behind on the next paper that's due. I honestly don't want her to think that I'm a bad student and that I'm careless, but i dont know how to explain that I'm having health issues and i dont want her to think I'm using that as an excuse. Ive passed all my other classes with an A and i haven't gotten an F before on a paper. If i didnt have all this crap going on with me i wouldn't be getting an F... it sucks because i got off topic when i did the paper and that's a big reason why i got an F but i literally worked on it day and night!:( also the medications I'm on make me very sedated and there just isn't any easy fix... what should i do or say?

  • Advice for working in a call center?

I have Aspergers Syndrome which means I have difficulties with social interactions. I’m about to graduate law school and got a job working at a call center in a law firm. Upon passing the bar I will become an associate lawyer at that law firm. If I pass the bar the first time I will be sworn in in December. I’m having a hard time working in the call center as I struggle with speaking on the phone and I have trouble figuring out when it’s my turn to speak. Once I become an associate I won’t have to be on the phone nearly as much. Any advice on how to stick it out until being sworn in as a lawyer? I will not give up!

  • Unlocking Autism?

So I have Aspergers, which is a form of autism. I am a shy person and would like to be a more social person. Any tips on that would be great, however what the purpose for this question is I want to learn how to use it to my advantage. I am highly aware of the things going on around me and such, but I know that people with autism can unlock something in them and become extremely smart. What are some ways to open myself up and use this "disability" to my advantage. I should also note I have adhd, and therefore have a very hard time focusing.

  • Leaving behind my disabled child while I take my other children on holiday ........?

Hello, I have 4 kids, one of which is disabled, 2 years ago (before lockdown) we went onto a family holiday. My disabled child who at the time was 2, didn’t take to it very well. He has major learning disabilities and sever autism. He hated flying, he hated riding on the transfer bus, he hated the hotel and the bedroom and the Spanish tv, at the time he was not diagnosed with autism or the sever learning developmental delay. We were going through many tests and didn’t know what was wrong but at that point there was still hope he would outgrow what ever it was. Now it’s been made clear he won’t. So basically the holiday was not really a holiday. One of us had to stay with my disabled child at all times in the hotel room. He was scared of the outdoor area, play park and pools. He didn’t like the noises or the amount of people. This really spoilt things for my other kids. This year my husband suggested we leave our child behind at his grandmas, his grandmas was more than happy and said that was a great idea and could she do the same and take all the kids on holiday without this one child.... I’m torn. It feels wrong to look at holidays and to imagine my kids having the most amazing time without their brother. But at the same time they deserve a family holiday that they can enjoy. I don’t know what to do or what feels right anymore I’m so depressed after the diagnosis and knowing he won’t get better.

Did anyone go through this in life? What is wrong and what is right?

  • If a normal woman has sex with a highly functioning autistic person with normal kids will the woman’s  eggs go bad? ?

I never did this but I do run into guys whose parents smoked too much and ended up in a Resources (ADD or dyslexic) or Life Skills (special needs) class.

  • How do people tell I am autistic by looking at me?

People usually call me retarded (in case it gets censored: ret*rded), but is it just that people see my autism?

  • Low functioning autism?

I suspect that my nephew has low functioning since he is nonverbal, has trouble doing things like tying his shoes, navigating from his school to home, remembering phone numbers, remembering his address, picking clothes out, showering (he spends about 1 hour showering alone). He does stim and fidget, very picky on what he eats, behaviour issues and sensory issues. There is times he can actually get verbal but is mostly nonverbal. As he’s grown his behaviour improved a little bit. He’s very bery intelligent. He’s 12 now but can easily do multiplication, addition, subtraction, Division, graphs, equations. Where could he go to get tested and where could I get information? (His parents are drug addicts that pay him no attention so he stays with me a lot). It is hard to get him to go anywhere especially to a specialist. I have been attempting to research this but there isn’t many helpful answers. Does anyone that knows a “low functioning” child with autism think that my nephew may have “low functioning autism”?
