  • Where can I find (or who manufactures) an analog atomic wall clock with alarm?

I want a wall clock for my living room. Looking for three features: atomic, analog display, and alarm. I don't mind if it is analog with digital, but I don't want digital only - that would look pretty ugly in my living room. Perferably 10" or 12" in diameter - anything bigger wouldn't fit in the space over the entrance. Does such a product exist???

  • Would a GMRS headset work with telephone with a headset jack? Are they both 2.5mm? Are they compatible?

I have a headset for a Motorola GMRS radio and I want to know if it will work with a Panasonic DECT phone. The phone has a 2.5mm jack for a headset, but I don't know if the GMRS headset is compatible. Do they even have the same number of contacts/conductors?

  • Need help with a deck - can you recommend a rust-proof coating for an ungalvanized steel anchor bolt?

Help! My contractor made a mistake and I am trying to do some damage control. The anchor bolts they set in the concrete piers were not galvanized or treated and I am wondering how to salvage the situation.

I would like to coat them with something to prevent rust from forming, but I am not sure what would be the best solution. Rust-proof paint? Epoxy? Polyurethane?

The bolt will not be directly exposed to the elements, but it will be outside and the Canadian climate is not a kind one.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How many times do you have to roll a die before there is a 95% probability that all 6 sides have been seen.?

Assume a fair die with six different sides. I am mostly interested in the technique(s) used to solve the problem rather then the solution.

  • Is pulling marbles out of a bag the same as flipping a coin?

When it's time to settle a decision, my two kids always argue about who gets heads in a coin toss. So, my new decision making method is to throw a red marble in a bag full of blue marbles. The kids take turns picking marbles - the winner is the first one to get the red marble.

My intuition tells me that the first one to pick should have a slight advantage. However, I have worked it out a number of ways, and it seems to me that as long as you start with an even number of marbles in the bag (including the winning marble), each person has a 50% chance of winning.

Can someone confirm this for me?

While we're here - anyone want to take a shot at figuring out if this technique can be generalized to select a winner from a group of children? I'm thinking maybe the number of marbles has to be a multiple of the number of kids to ensure that it's a fair game.
