How to stop feeling bitter toward friends who are more successful then me?
I don't want to be that person, but growing up, I was always the smart one in the group. The most hard working, and the most physically fit. I've always prided myself on that. I'm also reasonably educated. So when I see my old friends who were lazy screw ups, who took drugs, who dropped out of school, living better then me, well, I get a bit annoyed by that. One of these guys has a rich father, who has a business designing and building homes. He works around the clock. He gave his youngest son ( my friend ) 100% of the money to form a commercial electric company which 90% of his contracts are funneled into his business from daddy's business and his employees do all the work. So when he shows up with his 2nd million dollar speed boat and starts bragging to me about it, I smile and congratulate him and admire his boat. But on the inside I'm wishing to God that he sinks it on his maiden voyage. Does that make me a bad person? I don't want to be that guy. But apparently I am that guy. I hate that I work so hard for so little, while they work so little and have so much. I can't help but to feel some kind of way about that. Is that wrong?
2 AnswersPersonal Finance2 weeks agoWhat the heck happened? Was it my heart?
I was at the store getting some things and all of a sudden the first three fingers on my left hand went numb. It then traveled up my arm, then my left leg went all rubbery. Then i felt my heart in my chest stumble, and skip a beat. Felt like a PVC, ( i get those from time to time ). Then i started to breath heavy. I was alone where i was, so i went out to the front of the store just in case i passed out someone would see me. Then my other arm went numb. It felt like hot pins and needles down both arms and then a strange knotted up feeling deep in my stomach on the left side. I have a blood pulse oximeter. I put it on my finger and it showed my blood oxygen was all the way down to 91%. and my pulse was 115. I had a blood pressure cuff in my car. I got to it and put it on. it showed 158/100. At this point i'm starting to feel worse. So i call 911. But by the time the paramedics show up I'm normal again. Blood oxygen is back up to 97%, blood pressure is back to normal. They hooked me up to their EKG/defib machine and everything looked fine. What the heck happened? A similar incident happened to me about a year ago. I drove myself to the hospital that time. And again, by the time i got there, I was fine again. They found nothing wrong and sent me home. I had a cardiac stress test shortly after. All fine. And here i am a year later doing it all over again. I know yahoo answers isn't a doctor's office. I'm just looking for ideas that might help me figure this thing out. Thanks.
2 AnswersOther - General Health Care3 weeks agoMy dog ate a baby bunny. ?
My dog found a nest if baby bunnies and got a hold of one. I saw it happen and grabbed the dog. But the bunny didn't make it. The problem I'm having now, is there's a fee more bunnies in that nest. Its all he wants now. Is there a safe way to relocate the remaining bunnies? Or do I just have to wait and hope my dog doesn't get another one? What's the best course of action here?
6 AnswersOther - Pets1 month agoDo call blocking house phones exist?
What I mean is. I want a phone that ONLY rings on the numbers I tell it to. I'm living with an elderly person with dementia. He keeps falling for scam calls. He's really caused a mess for himself recently. Also because these scammers have had success with him. They keep calling. He gets about ten calls an hour. And he falls for almost every one of them. I need a phone that only rings when known numbers call. Does a land line phone like this exist? If so where can I buy one?
3 AnswersLand Phones2 months agoWhat would cause this erratic behavior in an elderly person?
My wife's grandfather is living with us. He's just not able to care for himself since his wife died. So we're looking after him. His behavior is growing more erratic all the time. Mostly anger. He also sits in the corner and just talks to himself all day long. He will have conversation with people that aren't even in the room. One day he even proceeded to give someone a tour of the house. "Hey how ya doin' let me show you around". And he went from room to room telling this person stories about the stuff in the room. But. he was alone. Nobody was with him. He does this kind of stuff all the time. But the main problem is the anger. It comes out of nowhere. This morning he wanted to cook some bacon. ok no problem. I asked him 4 times if he wanted help with it. He insisted he did not. So i go sit at the table. two mins later he comes over with the bacon, throws the plate of bacon at me and calls me an *** for just sitting there. What the heck? A few days ago he did something similar to the dog. He tried to give the dog a biscuit. The dog clearly didn't want it. So he shoves the treat in the dog's face and says "Take it you stupid asshole" and then kicks the dog. The people next door just put their house up for sale. He's now looking for ways "to get even" with them as he says. He says "he can't believe someone would do that. That's very rude". So he wants to "get even" he says. Why would a person act like this? It's clearly not normal. Is it just old age? Or should we worry?
9 AnswersMental Health3 months agoWhat's a good budget Android phone?
My current phone is an ASUS Zenfone 3. I have no issues with this phone. The battery just wont hold a charge anymore. Ideally i'd just have the battery replaced and keep this one. But given it's age, that's not really a good option. Most of the phones i've been looking at to replace this one, i don't really like. the newer Zenfone line up, the specs aren't much better then my old one. As much as i like the Zenfone experience, i can't justify the cost of a new one without any notable gains. I don't want a large phone either, i want to stay under 6". Out of everything i've looked at, i'm leaning towards the Pixel 4a. But i don't like the fact that it's all plastic, and also lacks an SD card slot. However, the hardware specs are very good for the price. I'm on the fence. I want a phone that's under $400, that doesn't suck. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be a new model. I don't mind buying an older model phone in order to save money, as long as it's still a decent phone. I haven't purchased a new phone in a long time. So i'm a little bit out of the loop. What would you recommend? And don't say an iPhone. I can't stand iOS. :)
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans3 months agoWeight loss using pills, or naturally?
I told my doctor i wanted to loose weight. Her first and only answer was pills. Phentermine. It's a narcotic. I'm not sure this is the right approach. I was hoping she would give me dieting tips, not drugs. She also didn't give me any instructions along with the pills. No dieting tips, no exercise tips, Nothing. Just, "here's your pills, have a nice day". Starting to think maybe i need a new doctor. Anyway, after reading about the side effects and risk, I'm not sure i want to take these. The side effects include things such as tachycardia, palpitations, high blood pressure, and anxiety. The issue is, i have a health condition that causes all of those things already called POTS ( Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome ). If i was perfectly healthy otherwise i might be more open to try this solution. But since i have this health condition, i'm not so sure taking an amphetamine for weight loss is a good idea. I was just curious if anyone else has had experience with this drug. Should i try the pills, or should i do it the "hard way" with diet and exercise alone? I've started a new diet. I'm not sure i'm doing it right though. I have a small cup of fruit for breakfast, salad at lunch, and something hardy for dinner. I've eliminated fried or greasy foods, and sugary drinks too. What are your thoughts? Is my diet ok? Do i take the pills? Or do this naturally? I'm 5'11 243lbs, i want to see 190 or less. What are your thoughts? Any advise? Thanks.
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness4 months agoQT Replacements for GTK applications on KDE Plasma Desktop?
I haven't used KDE in probably ten years. I've been on GTK desktops ever since. But lately i haven't been happy with them. GTK-3 has made a mess of XFCE. So i've been on Gnome for a while. But i'm not satisfied. Because, well.... it's Gnome. I want to use applications more native to the environment. So for example. on Gnome i was using Simplescan and gedit. and on KDE i'm using Skanlite and Kate. But what else do i need? I want to find native QT applications to replace the common Gnome native Applications that i frequently use. Applications like Gnome online accounts, Gnome contacts, Gnome calendar, Gnome Maps, Gnome dictionary, ect. Do you have a list of common KDE applications i should be looking at? Thanks. :)
Software4 months agoWhy are my teeth decaying so quickly?
Less then two months ago, all my teeth looked perfectly fine, accept for one in the very back. A wisdom tooth was black with decay. But the rest of them were fine. Now, almost every tooth in my mouth is rampant with decay. Why would this happen in such a short period of time? It makes no since. I'm worried i'm going to end up loosing all my teeth. I can't afford a dentist. My insurance doesn't cover dental. Not sure what to do. :/
1 AnswerDental5 months agoWhat's the term for when a police officer witnesses your crime and can enter your home without a warrant, because they're still in pursuit?
There's a name for this. It's a Latin word. I just can't remember what it's called. So lets say you commit a crime, a police officer sees you, but you are able to get away. Then a short while later, they find you at your house, and can come inside and get you without an arrest warrant, because technically you're still under pursuit. There is a legal term for this. It's a Latin word. I just can't remember that word. Anybody know?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police5 months agoHow to clean dried dog poo off floor?
My wife's elderly grandfather has two dogs. He has dementia and its progressing to the point where he no longer understands how to properly care for these dogs, or himself for that matter. He doesn't let them out to use the bathroom, so they poo all over the floor and then he refuses to clean it up. We are looking into re-homing these dogs because of this whole situation and also finding him a caregiver. His daughter is actually a trained veterinarian. She's handling the situation. But I need to get this floor cleaned. It's all over the place. What I'm looking at has been there for weeks. Its as hard as concrete and basically glued to the floor. After two hours of scraping with a putty knife and using a floor buffing machine with a scrubbing wheel. I've still barley put a dent in this mess. What can I use on this dried on poo? I'm thinking there must be some sort of chemical that can dissolve this stuff and unstick it from the floor. But I don't want the chemicals to damage the hardwood. What should I use? I considered maybe a natural solvent like mineral spirits or something. I'm just not sure what that would do to the hardwood underneath. Any suggestions?
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs6 months agoDiabetic acting intoxicated. ?
Living with a diabetic who suddenly started acting intoxicated. This person also fell down three times. Leaning backward and to the side, and just fell over. Slurred speech, fumbling over words, loss of short term memory and unable to count or understand simple concepts. Normally i would blame this on low blood sugar. But that's not the case this time. Blood sugar is actually good this time. I think he's ketotic. He refuses to go to the hospital or let anyone help him. So I'm not sure what to do. Any thoughts?
3 AnswersDiabetes9 months agoWhat mental disorder could it be?
We have tried to get him to seek help and get a diagnosis. But he refuses. So we don't exactly know what's going on. But, He talks to himself all day long, and also has conversations with people who aren't there. he will walk into an empty room and say "Hey how ya doing?" and proceed to have a conversation, answering questions, and everything. He really thinks he's talking to someone. He does this multiple times a day. He also goes through rapid emotional changes. He will be sad and cry for almost no reason, then laugh and giggle inappropriately at things. Almost child like. Then be aggressively and even violently angry, and then back to sad. This happens all in a matter of just a few mins. He also has no since of time. You can leave for 30 mins, He thinks it's been 5 hours. He also has hallucinations. He asked me for the remote to change the TV, he was angry and yelling at the screen saying, "get off the screen Dammit, he did this for a few mins, before asking for the remote". But... there's no TV at all in that room. He then he gets up, walks around, becomes confused, And then he will stumble and fall down almost as if his brain just stops sending signals to his body. Like he forgets how to stand or walk. He is also a diabetic, And drinks excessively. His daughter was diagnosed with Schizophrenia a few years ago. Could that be what this is? Is it hereditary? Do these symptoms match those of schizophrenia? What does it sound like to you?
