I'm a senior in college studying mechanical engineering. I have varied interests in a lot of different things but some of my favorite things to talk about during discussions are philosophy, religion, and social-dynamics / how things work. • Is Reality Deterministic, or not? Is the Future Predictable?

If the universe is governed by the laws of cause and effect, that would suggest that it is possible to predict the future, or find a way to do so eventually.

But if the universe is "random" and dynamic, and anything can happen because the future does not yet exist, then time travel within our own universe would be impossible, and any attempts to time travel would simply be going to a similar universe, but not our own.

Quantum physics people seem to agree on the second one, that the "Present" is the act of the future solidifying itself into the past. But is it really? Or has the groundwork for this reality been set in stone by some external source of input since before time began?

  • Receiving FAFSA when my parent's refuse to show me their financial information?

My parent's refused to show me their financial information last year before college when I was trying to get FAFSA and later told me they do not pay taxes. Now I'm trying to find out if there is a way that I can receive financial aid without having some kind of tax information. My parent's don't make very much money and can hardly support themselves, it's really no surprise that they haven't paid their taxes since I don't think we could afford it anyways (we rent a small house for about $300 a month.)

I'm 18 now and as I understand it, I have to put down their information until I turn 24 years old, which wont be for a loooooong time. Whenever I bring up the fact that all of my friends receive full tuition, books, workstudy and about $1500 back each semester for living expenses (one of them failed almost every class but is able to stay enrolled without his scholarship thanks to this financial aid, while I have a 3.25 and have to pay close to $1000 in books and fees that my scholarship does not cover) my parents get into a rage! They actually get angry at me that I am asking them for money to help pay for my books and threaten to kick me out of their house! If that ever happens the only thing I really can do is try to stay with my frat buddies in the lodge for a few nights while I save enough for an apartment or something. It is really depressing when your best friend who has less than a 1.0 GPA is getting all of his costs paid in full by the government and you have to pay everything out of pocket because you're just 0.25 short of the Crimson Scholars level which covers the same expenses. Is there anything I can do at all? I'm not sure my parent's even make enough to file taxes anyways, what's the income cutoff again?

I do not, not *NOT* want to get my parents in any kind of trouble if their income is above the minimum by a thousand or something, I would sooner drop out of college and support myself then allow them to get incarcerated for something stupid like that. Besides they're fairly poor and are probably under it anyways. But is there anything I can do? I'm not sure if I'll even be able to make enough for my fee's and frat due's this semester at my job, and might have to put them on my credit card (if there's even enough left on it to cover the fees!)

Not only that, I will probably have to start paying for my parents groceries using money from my work because the bad economy is making things even worse for them then usual.

    Any advise is appreciated.

  • Changing the network my xbox 360 connects to from my MSHOME network, to my windows vista WORKGROUP network?

I've had my 360 connected to live via ethernet to my router which connects it to the 3 windows XP computers in my house under the network MSHOME, which I never did quite learn to share files or anything else with except internet.

Heres the problem, I bought a labtop with windows vista home premium on it which created the new network WORKGROUP I think. I switched on one my windows XP pc's to WORKGROUP from MSHOME and thanks to vista was able to transfer files like my music library between the old computer and my labtop. I opened windows media player 11 (preinstalled) and found out my 360 isnt on my new network, its on my old one apparently which is why windows media connect cant find it im guessing. I use a hard wired method using long Ethernet cables connected to a router in my living room and its worked fine for years. How do i change which network in my house my xbox 360 connects to? windows help didnt say anything about selecting a ~WIRED~ network, only help with wireless ones.
