  • Texas Property Taxes for Disabled Vets?

I know that texas has an exemption system for disabled vets. For example, someone at 90% rating can get up to $12,000 exemption on their property taxes.

My question is, is that for life, or just until you've been exempted to that ammount? So, say my taxes are $4,000 a year, am I exempt from them for life, or am I just not paying property tax for 3 years?

  • Question for U.S. vets who've dealt with the VA.?

MY FELLOW VA BUDDIES who've dealt with the VA: Any recommendations on who to go through when contesting a VA decision? I plan to contest a couple decisions, obviously. I got my decisions in May and June, so I'm still within my 1-year window to contest but I've been debating on which route to go. I want it done right and effective as possible. Did anyone go with just their local VSO, one of those VSO services, or a lawyer? I'm still in El Paso, and so some of you know how many soldiers and Vets they see daily over here, so I don't know if they'll give me a good second work through. Any thoughts? I've been considering the VFW, DAV, etc. as well.

  • U.S. VETERANS!!! Suggestions for appealing a VA disability rating?

I got my decsion in May and June (second because of deferments). I got a couple "0" ratings for issues that I feel were far worse than some of the one they gave real ratings too, so I want to try and get them bumped up. I have some ratings i belive should be higher. I'm still within my appeal time (1 year from decision), so I want to make sure I get it done right, and with the best possible representattion. Any suggestons? I'M NOT looking for unemployability, I only want to make sure what's I need taken care of is taken care of.

Should I go with a VA specific lawyer, specific VSO, or go back to my VA, whom has the VSOs that origionally processed it.

  • Is there an offical term in literature for when the narrator of a story address the audiance in a more casual way than normal.?

I know some Dean Koontz novels do this, and I just finished reading a novel where the author is kind of telling the story as if he or she were recollecting it to us personally. Using phrases like, "but we'll get back to that later," or "Now, I probably don't need to tell you, it's been in the paper and on the telly for sometime, but ten years ago," and etc. "I can't remember if Lucy had 8 or 9 kittens, and I am not exactly sure which litter number this was at this point. It could have been her 9th litter for all I know,." I know it's not like a 4th wall breaking that we'd get in movies or comics, but there has to be some kind of literary device title for this.

  • Food Budgeting ideas?

So, I make frequent trips up to albuquerque. Every two weeks in fact. It's a four hour drive from where I live, so between gas and hotel accomodations, and maybe car rental, you're looking at at least 160 dollars every two weeks and that's not even including possible extra curriculars. I have to stay in a hotel, and the most cost effective one provides only a stove top (not even an oven) and a refrigerator. I'm thinking of getting a cooler to bring meats, milks, and other perishable foods, and perhaps a toaster oven so I'm not stuck preparing fried foods every meal.. This will allow me to avoid restaurants which could rack up to 20 to 40 dollars per meal.

Can anyone suggest meal plans, budget ideas, to do something like this the most cost-effective way?

  • Are there any affordable family meal delivery companies?

I'm not going to hold my breath on this, but does anyone know of a decently priced family meal delivery service? One that come in or around a typical monthly grocery budget? I'm in a family of five people, three kids among them. Me and the wife are both working and going to school, so I'm looking for a prepared meal kind of thing that delivers stuff that only requires to be heated up. Most of what I've found via the Internet so far are pretty pricy, as one would expect, but a lot of them are "healthy eating" websites, and I don't really need a particualr carb/calorie diet. I just want to feed my kids at night. Any suggestions?

  • Math Question, requesting method of how to solve too, please?

If everyone had the same body proportions, your weight in pounds would vary directly with the cube of your height in ft. Assume the average height and weight of a female in your math class is 5ft 6in and 140 pounds. Use this information to write a variation equation then use it to find the weight of the female below if she had the same body type as the average female. Round answer to the nearest pound. • Math Question.?

A basketball team played 86 games and won 10 more games than it lost. Find the number of games the team won.

Please give me an example on how I can get to the answer, not just the answer. Best answer goes to the first, AND most clear explanation. The examples in my book are confusing enough.

  • Is my ex-wife required by law to update my daughter's Social Security information if my daughter's name has been changed legally?

I recently had my daughter's last name changed, however, even though it was court ordered and all that, the ex wife is not only mad, but spiteful. Altough I said otherwise, she stated that she is not required by law to change her social security card. Now, I would go do it myself, but I tried that, and they told me that they needed shot records to show my daughter's alive and well. I'm not sure if the court order would suffice, but still. I was hoping that once my ex saw the birth certificate, she would realize I wasn't joking and just go get it updated.

  • Can I legally adopt my stepchildren (in Texas) if the father is still alive and involved (however loosely that may be)?

I'm U.S. Army and I just married, and I wish to add my stepdaughters to my benefits, however, I am required to legally adopt them first. I'm trying to learn as much as I can, since the father is still around. I'm not sure if I can adopt them with or without his consent so long as the mother consents.

  • Can a single Soldier living in the barracks file "head of household" for taxes?

understand what "head of household" is. I under stand I basically have to be unmarried and provide over half my house hold costs. Technically, I don't pay rent but I do pay for my own food (through BAS, technically) and household supplies such as cleaning, certain types of maintainance, etc. Will it come back to bite me filing like that as a single soldier in the Barracks? I am claiming a dependent thanks to a court agreement and the fact I have a daughter. Does that make a difference?

And yes, she is a child.
