  • Need opinions on pending baby boy name - Cael or Bren?

Friends baby was born 2 days ago, they haven't given him a name. Looking at Irish names only, they narrowed it down to Cael, Bren, and Brady. Middle name is decided as Thomas, big brother's name is Blaine.

One of the grandmothers thinks Bren is a girls name (apparently she has never researched the name) and Dad's not really fond of Brady but he's pretty laid back so in the end it doesn't really matter too much to him.

What are opinions of Bren vs. Brenn vs. Brennan with Thomas as the middle name? Same for Cael and Brady? Last names ends with a "ey" so not sure if Brady Riley sounds ok?

baby needs name by Tuesday! He neds to come home!

  • I have an opportunity to work as an independent consultant/contractor but have no idea how to do so legally. ?

I have never thought of doing this before, and have absolutely no idea what I am getting into (as far as legal & tax arrangements).

They want me to start in one week, so the time frame is short.

Do I need to create a business name? I am in IL, but I will be working in IN. Does this matter? Also, should I have them pay for my hotel room directly or would I be better off doing this myself and having them reimburse me for the stay? Is there a going rate for expense reimbursement (mileage, meal per diem, etc)

  • Anyone else have trouble naming their 2nd child?

My wife and I are having significant troubles naming our next son. We are not me-tooers. Any name in the top 25 can never be considered. There are actually very few names we even like in the top 100, and even then we don’t agree on any of the names we do like. We hate intentional misspellings with a raging passion. Also, trendy names make me regurgitate a bit in my mouth.

One problem is that my wife works with Children, and after dealing with some snotty kids (and worse - their parents) lots of names get blacklisted due to the association. We also can’t help but associate good names to morons we’ve known or met in the past. So for example, because I used to go to High School with an ogre with a uni-brow whose name was Grant, we can’t use the name.

This doesn’t leave us with much for baby #2. Baby #1 was easy. Our "girl names" were easy for us, but we aren't having a girl so they don't matter!

Anyone else as picky or opinionated?

  • Questions about health insurance as it relates to losing one's job and COBRA?

I recently lost my job. My employer of 9 years gave me a "take it or leave it" approach with a poor severance package. Essentially my termination letter states that my benefits expire November 30th but they will pay me for X number of weeks past my termination date. Looking at a calander, I see that they are paying me through December 2nd.

Since they are paying for two days of December, aren't they also supposed to pay for my insurance for the month of December since I'm technically still on their payroll?

I have to take COBRA for a few months until my spouse is covered with her new job....I can hardly pay for this expense!

  • Can anyone share some ideas to entertain my son on his 4th birthday?

We are new to the area and he has no friends, his "friends" were at his daycare but I lost my job and can no longer afford daycare so he stays at home with me. I was going to take him to the zoo but it's 37 degrees and raining so we probably wouldn't have much fun there. Does anyone have and (cheap) ideas so I can try to make this a special day for him?

  • what color should I paint my basement laundry room?

basement is dark, only two small windows so any dark colors cannot be considered. Currently a dingy, light yellow that I'm not fond of.

  • I accidently spilled draino on my carpet. What can I use to neutralize the spill to limit the damage?

I accidently spilled draino on my carpet. What can I use to neutralize the spill to limit the damage?

Drano leaked out of a box that was stored in my living room. Moved the box the other night and noticed a bleached spot on carpet. Used lots of water to try to clean up spill. Ran carpet cleaning machine over spot several times to try to help. Still smell strong "bleach" smell from spot. Carpet fibers are damaged, and can be easily pulled out. Need advice to find something to neautralize leftover draino to limit additional damage.
