Can you tell me what a independent contractor is?

I just got a job in cleaning vacation rentals. Really nice houses, my manager told me she will offer me houses to clean and I decide if I want to or not. She says we stats at 14$ an hour and get raises quickly. She said we are IC? Then she said any supplies we buy will be ‘written off’ what does that mean? I’m trying to decide if I want to stay at this job or not

How much should I charge for one of these?

It’s all one piece. I am selling them to people who want to buy homemade things at the farmers market.

Can yahoo answers just sell to some company that will be happy to run it?

I don't think it would sell for that much, it could be like less than 100 hundred million along with the accounts and data. At the very least they can sell the data as an asset to someone and they can keep it running.

Is starting an online business right for me?

I don't want to be miserable, and hate

office-politics. I also cringe at waking

up early every day at 6 am, driving

through an hour of traffic to get to a job

I hate; What's worse is: companies

pay only half of what you need to live on.

Like I've said many times: the

only jobs that make me happy

    are Coffee-Bean, Petco, Florists,

    or maybe a Library-technician.

None of those pay enough to live on,

so maybe I should work from home, online?

Should I use someone else’s picture on my LinkedIn profile?

    Favourite answer:

There is a website called 'This Person Does Not Exist'.  You can use pictures of those people.  If you just take a picture off  someone else's site you will be sued.

How do I buy a work vehicle so that I can write it off as a business expense?

I'm going to buy a used truck for my new construction business.

The current owner wants to be paid in cash. Do I need to purchase it with a company check in order to be able to write off the expense? Or is there another way to prove to the IRS that I bought it for my business?

    Thanks

Why are lumber prices so high in the US right now?  ?

    Favourite answer:

Practically everything has been hiked in price.  I guess merchants are just taking advantage of people.  Their excuse - closed businesses for a while.  Yet, we were still buying online what was needed.

    Is this money taxable ?

Weird question, but hopefully not too complex for those who know these things.

My good friend started a small business, and was doing pretty well with it. Just him, no employees. He asked me if I wanted in (mainly financially), and I trust him and said yes. We did not have a legally binding arrangement. If we made money, great, I would benefit in years to come.

Things were going well, and business was growing. We did not pay ourselves but just kept investing in the business. He did the bulk of the work, but I also put in hundreds (thousands?) of hours across perhaps 1.5 years. He got married, moved, covid hit, priorities changed. He decided to close up shop. He paid me back the money I had chipped in, plus an extra amount.

Is this extra money taxable? Can it be viewed as a gift? I’m not worried about the government coming knocking for it, but I want to do the right thing.

Can I start a business where I am the only customer? ?

    Favourite answer:

    SURE!!!

But you will have to pay all of the business set up fees..(close to $1,000 in some places) and you will have to file monthly tax forms even if you do not sell anything...and if you sell to yourself, you have to tax yourself ...soooo that is a bit of useless effort there...and You have to file quarterly tax forms to...with your state and Federal governments. And there is the annual tax filing requirement..You can do it but you will spend all of your savings paying business taxes and paying an accountant to do your taxes.

Are there companies out there who pay their employees to recruit new employees to them?

For instance, this one guy I know has been trying to get me to become a financial advisor. He’s been trying to convince me hard telling me that he sees a lot of motivation in me and that I’m driven. Which is true because I’m always keeping my eyes and ears out to make extra money. It’s just the thing is I don’t really wanna do what he wants me to do. Mostly because he tells me that first clients for these guys are usually friends and family, which I don’t wanna bother them trying to sell any type of insurance to them. Nor am I crazy on going door to door asking people if they want to sign up for insurance policies. Usually if I tell people about an opening at my work, I just tell it like “apply for it, yes or no, whatever you want”, but this guy that I’m talking about really into signing me up and basically doing a little sucking up. Are there companies that employees all the time for recruiting people? Mines not one of them, I was giving an example. But if I was being paid to recruit someone I might be on it like the guy I’m talking about here.

Should I follow the seller’s advice to open a dispute (Aliexpress)?

This is what the seller had told me: “The logistics provider replied that the Courier could not get in touch with you. Parcels are usually returned to the local post office after delivery fails. You can use the logistics tracking number to consult the local post office for picking up.”

Since aliexpress is late in updating me about where my parcel is I was unable to answer the calls from the post office but I did attempt contacting the hotline that contacted me but it was always busy. I visited my local post office and the person there told me that my package is in Dubai. I lived in Abu Dhabi and I can’t travel to dubai due to restrictions.

I was then updated by the seller “Dear customer, we contacted the logistics provider and were informed that the package has been destroyed. As a result, we pay high international logistics costs and cargo costs. We were told that the Courier could not get in touch with you, so the package was returned to the post office. Since no one picked it up for a long time, it has been destroyed now.”

The seller then suggested that I can

open the dispute and select "Logistics cannot query information" to refund.

I’m scared to open a dispute because aliexpress might charged me because the seller paid for having the product destroyed. I’ve been thinking twice because it’s okay for me get at least a partial refund or not get a refund at all. But I might regret if I didn’t even try opening a dispute.
