  • Simple molarity calculation?

    Can somebody check my math?

I'm trying to figure out the molar concentration of bromophenol blue. The total volume of the solution is 10 mL, with 0.1 mL of 3 x 10^-4 M bromophenol blue.

    From my calculations, I got 3 x 10^6 M. Is this correct?

  • Help with chi square tests?

The data I have was obtained during a physiology experiment about the circulatory system, which involved recording subjects' blood pressure, EKG pattern, and pulse under specific conditions (at rest, after submerging arm in ice water, and after light exercise, respectively). As such, I'm required to perform a number of chi square tests to see if any changes evident in the data for the different treatments were of statistical significance.

I've only done chi square tests on data in terms of frequency, i.e. how many times does X occur, relative to Y. These seem different, and I'm not quite sure how to set the calculations up. For example, one asks "Is there a significant change in heart rate between rest and exercise?" How do I approach this? Would I need to set some sort of discriminate value, specifying what would constitute a "significant" difference, or do I need to look at how many times heart rate was higher after exercise than it was at rest?

  • Replacing Xbox 360 disc drive?

I have two Xbox 360 systems. One is the original system I recieved for Christmas during the launch year that got the RROD. Long story short, I sent it in for repairs and it still overheats (two red rings).

My second Xbox 360 is the one I purchased after my first one got the RROD. It has worked fine for a few years, but now it isn't recognizing game discs, which means the disc drive is failing. Instead of sending it in to money-hungry Microsoft to get "fixed," I was wondering if it would be possible to take the working disc drive out of my first Xbox, and transplant it into the second.

If anyone could give me any advice or link a tutorial that specifically deals with installing a new, Xbox brand disc drive that would be great. Thanks.

Also, if it matters, one of the Xbox 360s is a pro system and the other is a core system. I assume the disc drives are pretty much identical.

  • Project about breast cancer?

I have to make a powerpoint presentation about the transmission/risk factors and epidemiology of breast cancer. For now, I am just making an outline of what I would like to put in the slides themselves.

Here is what I have so far:

    1) What are the risk factors for breast cancer?

    A. Lifestyle (i.e. childbearing, diet, alcohol and tobacco use, age, use of oral contraceptives, gender, race, breastfeeding)

    B. Family history, genetic causes (BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, p53 gene)

    2) Disease Statistics

    A. Cases and deaths based on gender

    B. Female breast cancer rates sorted by age (with chart)

    C. Incidence and death rates in females sorted by state (with graphs)

    D. Incidences and deaths in females sorted by race and ethnicity (with graphs)

What else can I include? What exactly is epidemiology, and would the statistics I put fall under that topic?

  • TI-83 Calculator trouble?

My TI-83 Plus is giving incorrect exponents. For example, I am trying to divide a number with an exponent of 8 by a number with an exponent of 15. As you may know, the answer should have an exponent of 8-15 = -7, but the answer shows an exponent of -8. Is there a setting or mode that is making this happen?

  • Picking up preordered Modern Warfare 2 at Best Buy?

Ok, so I preordered MW2 at Best Buy and I paid with my own credit card, but put someone else's name on the order so they could pick it up for me (Best Buy says that only the person who places the order can pick it up). Ironically, Best Buy also says that only the person who's name is on the purchasing credit card can pick it up. I'm just wondering if the employees are really strict about this kind of thing. The person who's picking it up for me happens to be my dad, and his name is also on my bank account, so it's basically his credit card too. Will they let him pick up my order? I'm gonna make him take one of our bank statements, so if they give him any bull, he can prove that he's really my dad. This better work :(

  • Do PA's have the potential to make $100,000+ per year?

Right now I'm a first year PharmD major, but I've decided to pursue a career in medicine so I'm changing to pre-med after this year. Considering the fact that getting into U.S. medical schools is so hard, I'm thinking that my backup plan if I don't get in should be to become a PA. However, I have done a little research and have seen that, on average, PA's only make about $70,000 per year. While that is a decent salary, I don't feel like it does any justice to the six-year education required to get the job. I just don't understand why pharmacists, who get the same amount of education and do less in terms of direct patient care, get paid upwards of $50,000 more per year.

  • Is the swine flu going to be the next plague?

Well, I honestly think that people are making this out to be much more than it is. I realize that this is mankind's first exposure to the illness, but with proper precautions, it can be avoided entirely. People panic whenever this sort of thing happens (i.e. SARS). Any thoughts?
