Are you allowed to walk around wearing sunglasses at an airport?
My friend who is asian won't leave his apartment without wearing his shades. He's afraid he will be harassed since he's asian and he plans on visiting his parents but he's afraid to even walk around at an airport without his sunglasses.

Your friend can wear sunglasses inside the airport if he wishes. However, he will be required to remove it when going the security. (Though he can put it back on after screening is completed.)
Though attacks on Asians have been on the uptick, the media is sensationalizing these attacks. I really wish they quit the click-baiting and be more objective.
I am sorry that your friend has become afraid enough that he wants to hide himself. He shouldn't have to. The airport is one of the safest places to be. With security EVERYWHERE, the chances of an assault is extremely remote.
For the record, I am married to an Asian. Both she and my in-laws take some precautions, however they are not afraid and conduct their business as casually as possible.
And to reiterate, Masks is mandatory at all U.S. airports until further notice.

no problem , tell him to wear his covid mask and a
hat also so no one recognizes him as Asian

You have to wear a mask, too. They only ask you to take the mask down at the ID check before going through security. No one sees you but the security person.

They would have to be removed at the ID check at security and possibly when going through the body scanner or metal detector. Otherwise it shouldn't be an issue.
